Fenris Armor and claws; rather impressed.

I had never made a set of the Fenris armor nor messed around with the claws, but having cleared a number of mountain caves and terminated a ton 'o wolves I found myself with a pile of unused materials.

So I made a set and upgraded it a few times (could not max it yet because of the current levels of my crafting benches).

I am actually impressed with the set. Not only is it great for general exploring because of the set bonus (increased speed which is quite noticeable), it really comes into its own -at least for me- in exploring the mountains.

Speed, frost resistance and the bonus to the claws means you can get away from anything you can't take a hit from (golems) and kill anything else. The claws easily drop wolves and taking on more than one at a time is more than doable.

I hope the developers add more unique armor sets with the additional biomes as it is nice to have some options that support different play styles.

Troll, Root, Fenris...

...what might be next?

Root is good for exploring the swamp and the + bow skill can be noticeable.

If anything I try to get at least the Root mask; only 2 abominations needed. The poison resist is nice to have 'all the time' so you don't need to worry about potions.

yeah it takes to many abominations to make and upgrade the root armor unless you literally live in the swamp for atleast a few hours

Root wasn't all that good, in fact long before I had killed enough abominations to make a fully upgraded set I had a fully upgraded set of iron armor.

i wear the gear+bow all the time in all bioms. i like the movement speed and the dmg is fine. parry timing seems to be a bit harder than shield but its still doable after you tried each mob for a while.
CRITICPOINT: pls give us SPINNING BACKFIST as secondary attack with claws and not the leg kick ty

I didn't really perceive much of an increase to speed while wearing the Fenris hood & leggings, until I died and equipped some other armour to retrieve my tombstone. I love the Fenris gear, and only ever wear the Fenris hood, legs and Wolf Armour Chest for its frost resistance, so I do not need to equip a cape.

Since the Fleshrippers use the Fist skill, it also buffs your unarmed heavy attack (the kick). I find it hilarious to kick Greydwarfs off the side of a steep hill or large rock.

Personally, I foresee a Bone set at some point.. possibly with the Mistlands update, if it's themed the way I think it is.

Obviously, it would probably be a side set like the ones you mention, but the perplexing part is.. what could the set bonus possibly be? The main resource set would just be higher armor and durability compared to Padded, but a new side set?

Fire resist?

Health return on damage/kill?

Causes attacked skeletons to fight for you?

Interesting thoughts indeed.

I like to equip them and reenact that one dream. Chase down deer on foot and claw them to death. It's surprisingly a lot of fun.

Thanks for tip there Amenur, I never really used the small shield to parry, so will have to go work on my timing it seems.

The set is realy godtier, as the claws also have a parry, like small shields. So you can just parry stagger trolls and dispose of them easily, same goes for abominations. As for golems, if you manage to sneak up on them, which I admit is not always an option, what you want to do is: dont attack the golem directly, rather stand at a 90° angle to the golem, let your first punch wiff and then spin to hit them with the second attack, which does way more damage (I think thrice of the right claw?) with this strat your hit should stagger the golem (I had max level claws and a skill above 50 in fists, don't know how well it works with lower levels/upgrades) if you then just keep pushing the attack you should be able to stunlock kill the golem. The only things I struggled with using only the claws were Fugling Berserkers and Lox.

The combo is good, but has its limitations.
Against regular trash mobs up to plains there are no problems.
When fighting the tanky mobs like trolls, golems, lox, abominations and fulling groups, it takes longer to dispose of them because you can not take the hits well enough. Log trolls are a real pita due to their reach.
But the movement benefit is awesome for getting away and travelling distance. I highly recommend it for that.

I typically get the full Fenris set when making my first visit to the Plains. Instead of assaulting a fuling village to get flax, I suit up with Fenris and apply the Eikthyr blessing then make a wild run into the village, grab a stalk of flax and then run like hell to get out. For just running about and mapping new lands, the Fenris set plus the flesh rippers are golden, er silver.
