Raids and hunts
I like this game but I'm not a fan of the raids and hunts. I can't be the only one that feels that random attacks detract from my game experience. I know there are people that enjoy that aspect of the game. I hope the devs give us a gameplay setting to disable random events at least on private worlds. Personally, I would enjoy the game better without them. Every time one happens, I find it takes more and more time before I'm enjoying myself again.

Yeah, I'm seeing exactly what I thought I would. Some people are arguing the merits of the system, which I'm not saying to cut out by the way. While others are suggesting ways to get around the system by making new worlds and refusing to do the things that trigger the raids and hunts. If I were designing a game with a feature like this, I'd want to make it an optional setting so that I can appeal to as many players as I possibly could without permanently altering the main game. Making a feature optional simply means that each type of player can play the game how they wish to. The raids and hunts do not make it a survival game. The surviving and building a base while gathering resources to better yourself make it a survival game. The raids and hunts are random and add NOTHING to the game besides risk to yourself and your base for no reason at all.

I would like to state that making a thing optional doesn't effect other people from being able to do it. I never stated to take the raids and hunts out. I stated that an option would be nice to turn it off and on so that you could have it if you want and not if you didn't. Especially on a single player game. What's with the right way and wrong way to play mentality? Games are meant to be fun and if something is detracting from that fun then it's not wrong to want to be able to turn it off.

Double palisades + spikes will do, can lower or raise terrain as well for defense. The only real danger are mobs with AoE (Trolls) or magic attacks, vanilla invasions are manageable enough i'd say but modded is a whole new level of pain. ;p

I'd argue that if you can get around the system with simple actions that are entirely supported by the game's design then it is, in fact, already optional. While others are suggesting ways to get around the system by making new worlds and refusing to do the things that trigger the raids and hunts.
Note that there's also a devcommand provided to revert any world to pre-raid conditions.

I'd say there has to be random risk for it to be a survival game. Otherwise the player has complete control and then its a building sim. Getting rewards such as bronze/iron, it they are just given with no risk, gets pretty boring.
As near as I can tell though, you only get raided while in or very near a base. And it has to have enough campfires,workbenches, torches and or a bed to qualify as a base. No idea what those parameters are. Theoretically, one could just be a nomad and stay in pre-made shacks and you shouldn't see a raid then. JUst the normal traffic from spawns/nests/body piles etc....

The raids are part of the 'survival' experience. This is a survival/crafting/exploration game, right? I'm sure there's a mod or something you can use to minimize/remove the raids but in vanilla Valheim, it's a risk you have to prepare for. The bosses aren't waiting for you to conveniently show up and kill them while uber-geared. They're coming after you in advance. I like it.

Most raids are centered around a "base". Base being defined as 3 structures such as campfire/workbench/bed. I don't think walls and fences count for that though. Some raids like the Wolf Hunt event are designed to be away from base. Wolf hunts specifically only happen when you are outside of a base in the Mountains or Plains.
There is another "blob" event!?! Not sure never had it and unsure if it is a base raid or open world raid.

raids are weak breed wolves let them do the work for ya.build a breed pit and while building your big main base feed them let them go crazy like rabbits then you will have more wolves than you know what to do with.mine mow down trolls like nothing don't have to do ♥♥♥♥

Just make a new world and don't kill any bosses, and the invasions won't be such a pain. Infact it will be even easier, as boars and neck's will attack you. oooo scary boars.

killing a troll, makes the troll event come, killing a surtling, picking up a head ... that makes that event come... it says killing lots of wolfs makes the wolf hunt come, on another page it says if you kill bonemass it will come. My self, I killed alot of wolfs not bonemass and the event poped for me, new seed.. killed bonemass.. not wolfs... wolfs came hunting so both will trigger the event to spawn after that

its a part of what makes the game the game, without it your taking a aspect away that would slowly turn this game into just a builder and not survival where we are suppose to be slaying the enemy's of Odin. The game's easy enough already and the events are a great part of the game, the happen so fast and are over so fast anyways. I manage them alone all the time.

Had you killed Moder when you got the wolf hunt event?
I have never seen a wolf hunt event unless I kill bonemass. My current playthough I have all the silver I need already and have not killed bonemass. Killed tons of wolves and no wolf event. I do suspect that if I kill Moder I will start the wolf events but I won't do that until I have plenty of Flax and Barley ready to go.
This has been my method for at least 7 play-through worlds.. but this is my first play-through post H&H so something may have changed.

Yup, default raid is free food. Some players have separate worlds for adventuring and homesteading for this reason. Just make a new world and don't kill any bosses, and the invasions won't be such a pain. Infact it will be even easier, as boars and neck's will attack you. oooo scary boars.
