I remember one time me and my brother were looking for swamp in 2 karves. Found a small river that went between 2 plains and it was a terrible decision. Fuling blew up my boat, got out of the water only to be trampled by a land hippo.

If you have not noticed the border areas between zones are the most difficult at times for younger players because something from a more aggressive biome goes into the lesser to fight mobs.

Naval patrol skeeters are one of the nastier things in the game, but they make exploration risky, not impossible. The solution when at sea is parrying, which effectively hits them with the boat itself. It would certainly help if the map exploration radius while sailing covered more of the distance you can actually see.

Thanks for the tips, used the console to retrieve my corpse. I’ll need to get a bit further before attempting the Elder next time.
The initial plan was to make a portal as soon as landfall but as mentioned I was swarmed and insta-killed, literally before even being able to reach dry ground.

a portal as soon as you make landfall is generally a really good idea, you just got very unlucky and found yourself in the plains biome. the monsters there is to strong right now. try sailing a bit from the shore and se if you can spot a black forest or meadows further along the coast.
The elder summoning stone thingie is in a black forest, so scout around :)

Avoid the plains.

You need to be in Iron Armor or better to deal with the plains.

Silver* or higher armor. Don't go to the plains after the Swamps, go to the Mountains.

Portals are your friend, you could prob get your corpse in few deaths and portal makes sure you dont have to spend hours getting back for new try.

Yes, the Elder tends to be what seems like really far away. In the grand scheme of things he's not, but he's usually not easy to get to either.

Steps to get your gear since you are boned edition.

Hit f5
Type: Devcommands
Type Debugmode
Type God
Type Ghost
Hit "Z" and fly to your stuff, get it, put it on, fly away.

When safe, turn it all back off and play your game.

Guess it's time to re-grind all my gear again? TBH not very encouraged or excited to re-do all that.

1°) You are supposed to craft multiple sets of equipment (there's even a loading tip about this). It doesn't have to be max upgraded current tier, it can even be max upgraded previous tier (as far as I read). The same goes for boats if you don't like playing with (a lot of) portals.

2°) There are multiple locations where to invoke the Elder. By exploring in circle around map center, you should be more likelly to find vegvisirs linking to locations in other directions (or is it always the nearest location?).

3°) If you don't want to use the console, you can always consider that you'll retrieve this corpse when you are ready, and that then, you'll inherit a nice rescue set of upgraded bronze (in case you don't want to invest in two iron sets, later, see 1°).

Squitos have like 10hp. Just shoot them.
