It has improvements geared toward those who do more than just slay bosses and leave. And a rework of a basic "leveling" mechanic that will undoubtedly be important in future releases. Yes, food is part of the progression system, so it makes sense for it to get a revamp now so that later updates can add new features without disrupting too much.

Not to mention they've also spent their time going through the long list of bugs unearthed by the unexpectedly huge number of beta testers they got.

This is foundational stuff, maybe not the most exciting, but good to get it done earlier rather than later. If you want to snooze through this update that's up to you. The game will still be here later. It's not like they're collecting subscription fees in the mean time. I got my $20 worth and then some awhile ago.

Well, let's see. As our good raven Memory stated above, there's not been a whole lot of details released as they want us to discover them as we go, but they have released a number of teasers.

First, as the name suggests there is a whole plethora of building parts being added. Most are as yet unknown too us, but they have teased us with shingle roof tiles, wolves head ornamentation, shuttered windows, a new chest type, coin stacks and piles, a new type of iron door/wall (not fully sure which), and a few other things the look slightly off in the vids, but nothing I can place my finger on yet.

They have tweaked how shields work, giving some much needed love to the tower shield and with a focus on health being important to defensive gameplay while stamina is still offense focused. There are some weapon tweaks as well that will be mentioned in their next vid.

There is a new plantable material in the form of the onion. There is also speculation that the Darkwood Tile roofs will use a new Darkwood material to gather, though this isn't confirmed as yet. There is also the new Pukeberries to gather and three new types of meat (deer, boar, wolf) to replace raw meat.

They have also completely changed the cooking and food system, expanding it out from a simplistic placeholder to a full out crafting system on par with the Workbench and Forge. This means several new crafting station upgrades and probably some build items to place around them. Food is also broken down into health focused, stamina focused, or balanced recipes allowing you to more finely pick your playstyle. I also suspect that food will now have upgradeable tiers like equipment does, but that's just my personal speculation.

It is this kind of question that makes me excited to play and find out.

What resources will the food upgrade need? Silver? Silver and iron?

What kind of impact is wolf meat going to have on the food it makes? Will it force you to basically have to be at the level to stay overnight in the mountains to get a two star wolf?
Will the food at that point be worth the effort?

I really like to analyse a progression system like this. Trying to figure out what they intend, how I can optimize things to my choice of playstyle etc.

They have done a good job of balance so far, so I am kind of optimistic they will do a good job of tweaking things.... but I still worry things could get a lot worse.

edit add- I avoid spoilers and these items I just came across reading the discussions here about the changes. So I really am kind of excited to see all the new things I don't know about and figure out how they work into the scheme of things.

There won't ever be a list (before the release of H&H) since the developers don't want to spoil every new content. I think that's understandable.

Reinstall? I'm just a poor country boy from Missouri; I'm not sure I know what you mean.
Are you using mods which an update might break? Are you worried that new content like onions and cookware might require creating a new Valheim world to fully implement?

I don't use mods so I can't help on that score. As for requiring a new Valheim world, I would advise turning the automatic update feature in Steam off and waiting a couple of days after September 16th.

By that time, any problems caused by Hearth & Home will have caused eighty-eleven new threads to sprout on this forum. Information on improvements will be much scarcer.

I will re-post to this thread to tell you what I discover.

There are so many amazing mods out there that add a wealth of functionality, that I cannot imagine playing the bland, featureless vanilla game at this point

The game devs will almost certainly never catch up to what the mods offer

You can make metal cages to stack your gold. You can now obtain different meat. You can now make new rugs...WOOO...not. Tower shields get a rework.

So basically nothing.

Mods are great if you're into that kinda thing. I'm more interested in seeing what the creators of the game have in store. Six months into EA for a game that has been in development in one way or another for nearly 10 years. Devs are about to hit their stride. they finally got the cash infusion they need to complete the vision. It doesn't really matter if you stick around to see it happen, your contribution has already made it possible. It doesn't matter if people Mod the game, the vision will still be realized.

I'm guessing, but probably sometime in 2023 or there about the game should be getting close to 1.0

Yeah, that's a pretty reasonable expectation I think. I also don't expect a 1.0 version before 2023 at least.

I will be waiting for the 1.0 version before playing again. Most probably won't be playing H&H. Would like the re-run to be as complete an experience as possible.

Hearth and Home... as the name would suggest ... will add lot of new building pieces and change up the food and stamina system quite a bit.

A reinstall I guess depends on you and how you play the game. If all you are interested in is boss fights then don't bother.

There isn't much here for people wanting expanded gameplay. Food is getting rebalanced but if it really benefits the flow of the game we will have to wait and see. That appears to be pretty much it from what they have shown.

There's a new cooking station, new crops and some alternative building/decorative pieces. They appear to be largely the same as activities currently in the game but with an additional lick of paint.
