stamina nerfs to food (esp early food) make the game feel terrible

filling up all 3 food slots with early game meat like deer, neck, and boar, and you only get 73 stamina split between running, jumping, fighting, and harvesting, and it just feels awful. I'm glad I got my 300 hours of valheim in before the food changes. One day maybe it'll be reverted or buffed *again* like they had to do immediately after release. Poor design direction- it just feels bad

I have no mercy for this game but I assure you that other than headaches like finding onion seeds, the food is pretty much balanced at this point. Just do straight stamina foods until you plan on needing to block something, at which point you should do your 2 best health foods and 1 best stamina food.

You forgot to add the obligatory "bukeperries" in the middle there. So to reset yourself from Stam to Health mode, you have to eat four things total, puke once. It's a bit silly, but meh. I'm not really interested in the game at this stage with the changes that have gone in.

I don't agree with you at all. I just restarted from scratch and I think the new food combinations allow you to be more "powerful" in your given role than previous. Want more stamina for chopping wood or mining, that is possible. Want more health for fighting, that is possible. You can get more health or more stamina than you could in the past.

I tend to run two stam one health when working, and two health one stam when fighting. Early game the mushrooms berries, basic boar and deer meat combos where enough, but worth getting into the dark woods and get some tin ASAP build a cooking pot and start making carrot based foods.

Then you will have more stam and health than you need for any task.

I honestly find the new system to be almost OP if you put in the effort to find the ingredients and learn the recipes and upgrade your cooking station. Transition from wood to stone to bronze to iron was far smoother than last time i played.

forcing players into roles doesnt feel good to me. I liked being all-around useful and optimal.

this is the opposite of forcing you into a role. you can choose at whim, what to do.. You can trade one for the other as required and mix and match to your preference.

Previously there was just "the best food" now there is the "best food for this situation". It provides an extra layer of choice and decision making providing value to the cooking and farming / survival system.

It rewards planning and thought put into your gameplay. It provides a boost to you when you prepare. And if you are trying to min max your mining and go 100% stam and then get attacked it does punish your health and block, and likewise a full 100% health build does not give as much stam to deliver as much damage. So it lets you find your own personal balance.

In the old model there was no play style choice from food buffs, they just were what they were.

As someone who has never played on the older food system I have no problems with the current system at all.

I feel like I'm skimping out on getting 3 meats early and I'm exploring Blackwood with Deer/Boar/Honey and I can still easily kite basic enemies even when close to running out of stamina.

Really the only place I'd need a full stamina bar is to run away from the Troll that's roaming outside my house, and even with that 2 meat honey setup I can tank one hit from the troll.
