Can I use old world?

Hi guys, I'm planning to come back to Valheim, with my old world save and character to finish it with friends and kill remining 2 bosses. Can I actually upload old world file and still expect all new features to been included? Or should i start with new world?

Depends upon the old world, though it should work. Just do remember that the biome updates will only happen to the unexplored areas (you must have been farther than 500 metres away from them). Now this means that I hope that you did not explore the entire world (vikings got to explore, right?).

You can definitely try. But don't expect for tar pits and frost caves to show up in areas you already have explored/been close to.

As both electriddawn and pumas mentioned, while the world will probably work, it will also probably take extra time to load the first time due to conversion to the new models.
As for the character there should be nor problems.
And as pumas mentioned, worst case scenario, you'll have a seasoned character in a new world. However, do remember that as long as you can see the old world on the list, you can also get the seed reference to remake it should you wish to carry on (you would have to explore and build again, but on the other hand you would know roughly where some things are).

It is not the old world but your could create a new world using the same world seed that your old world used.

Nothing you built in the old world will appear in the new one. Neither will any of the terraforming you may have done in the old world. The shape and positioning of landforms and biomes in the new world, even positioning of resources will be very, very similar to the old world. Since the new world will be unexplored, biome changes that were added after the creation of the old world and did not appear in explored portions of that old world, will be in the new world.

Basically, you will be starting in a virgin new world that is the same as your virgin old world except the new world will include terrain features added after the old world was created.

if i remember correctly - during summer 2021 an update was made to change basics to the terrain-handling. the world was converted automatically to the new terrain-modification-model.

but valheim gets several major updates and patches from EA-launch till now... try it - but possibly your old world cannot be converted/updated to the last state if the savegame is too old - or some elements missing whatever.

but - i´m sure your char-file will work as expected. in case your old world is gone, start a new world with your old char.

greetings
