Better and safer to put the shack on top of crypt though I would opt for a portal so you can get a long rest bonus and all the other things a real base offer you.

One thing about the swamp, is that it's raining almost all the time and the fires end up going out, so make sure the fire is covered to actually be burning.

Ok thanks for pix I imagined you UP on top of the crypt (it offers more protection ).. you may be too close to a leech or other spawner point.. so #Archdeacon Monseigneur said try sneaking AND as #Gladi8er65 suggests use portals once you get access to them for simpler bases and better resource usage,better stamina gain via rest..cannot beat a good nights sleep in this game

Instead of trying to fight against the campfire placement and enemies being too close, etc., put a portal on top of the crypt (connected to home base or safe place), and simply port out to sleep + recharge rested bonus... Really should always carry resources for a portal when you go out to dangerous places.

Would probably be more efficient. But I'm taking it slow and trying to build cool outposts around the islands.

Well, another suggestion would be to build the outpost up in the indestructible trees... The only mobs getting up there are "flyers".

Once you are able to craft stone floors you can set coal kiln, and smelter up there as well... safe place to process your metals.... and don't forget to add a portal as well.

I did this and it changed to "bed requires fire nearby".

Ok I changed nothing since last time I played. Just started the game now and it works suddenly.

I believe you are wishing the lamps (fires on posts) were campfires. i haven't tried sleeping on a crypt more as a vantage point and safe(somewhat) zone. so u will need a roof/chimney real campfire as i understand it

Built all that. Tried the campfire outside the shack, in a hole in the ground inside, and on the stone railing of the crypt entrance, also inside the shack. Bed is right next to it in every case.

But you say that this should be possible? I might have to clean the leeches out more thoroughly. And I'll rebuild the shack.
