Dude. The game is freaking 20 bucks. How much cheaper does it have to be?

I don't think anybody is saying $20 isn't inexpensive, but just as you used the word "cheap" I would agree, it looks like a cheap game, which is why the developers price it at $20.00

When you knock off $2.00 from the pricetag you may as well not be knocking off anything. If they were to have done 25% off, making it $15, that at least catches eyes, and wallets.

You can't expect people to get excited to dish out anything for Playstation 2 graphics on a new title, and yes, I know there are a ridiculous amount of people that would flay me for speaking ill of their lord.

There are people out there whining about paying $14 for Just Cause 4 because of graphics quality and that is primo AAA.

Who care about graphics man? The gameplay is where it's at. There are many many games with good graphics but bad gameplay and viceversa. When did graphics become the main criterion?

And btw Valheim has a nice graphics style. The lighting is really well done and blends well with the retro style.

Sorry, didn't intend to say that is the ONLY thing that matters - I know the game has a huge following, but I was expressing why that $20 price tag made sense and still didn't draw some people in enough.

In an open world crafting game as expansive as that - graphics do matter to me. If I wanted something with a different visual style but still survival crafting I'd be playing Don't Starve.

At the end of the day, everyone has their own preferences, and value systems - I personally can't get into Minecraft, but I am head over heels for Satisfactory or No Man's Sky.

Grab me with the graphics, keep me with the gameplay.

Minecraft is an extreme example. Valheim does not look as bad as Minecraft. Not even close.

*eyeroll* It's a simple example of function over form making a successful game. I made no comparison of Valheim being the same as Minecraft.

You do realize Hello Games and Coffee Stain are five times the size of Iron Gate? If Iron Gate had 25 employees developing this game it would probably have better graphics. It would also cost at least $10 more, if not $20-30, because graphics are expensive. It's also not a question of good or bad, it's a question of style. I love Red Dead Redemption 2's graphics, but I also love Valheim's graphics. The game is damn beautiful once you sit down and play it for a bit. But go ahead and rob yourself of that experience.

"And so Hello Games decided to make something big and weird and ambitious that could still work within its small studio structure. For much of No Man's Sky's development, the team was just six people, expanding to 15 by the time it shipped. Still, it was a tiny team considering the buzz around that game.Sep 2, 2020"

Iron gate has 5 employees, and hello games Kicked off with 6 - not a very drastic difference, they just started off with totally different platforms evidently.

And I **AGREE WITH YOU** if they were utilizing a better graphical engine, they could get more people to buy it at this price price point, or higher. Graphics are the initial marketing point, it's the cover of the book that makes you take it off the shelf and look closer.

No Man's Sky was a steaming pile of garbage when it shipped.

Also not a very strong argument to say "Nuh uh they're only 3 times the size!"

I feel as if I was robbed---but should have seen it coming---for the amount of time I waited for the Summer Sale. Sales are always a freaking push over, since many prices make no sense! Look at freaking Space Engineers as an example. This game has much greater graphics, but is buggy as all hell, yet they can have 30% off?!?! That is a sale, 10% isn't a sale, that is just a discount. I'm still interested in the game, but why the hell should one game with PS2 graphics be marked down by a few pennies, while a game with PS4 graphics be allowed to be marked down by actual dollars?!

Edit: Also, why tf is R6 marked down by 60%? That is a terrible game due to all the hackers, but the graphics are far superior to this?!?!? I don't think Steam has their head screwed on right with marking things down as "sales".

I updated my post to have more context, and will say it again here - Hello Game started with 6 people, Iron Gate -- 5. Your math is off. When they launched they had 15, and if Iron Gate refused to expand, despite having sold upwards of $40,000,000 Gross worth of copies as of February 2021 - that is on them.

No Man's Sky, for it's shortcomings on launch, was still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fantastic title both graphically and gameplay wise, with plenty to do for hundreds of hours leading into the huge updates they started rolling out. And with every few months it has only become better and better and better - and never for an extra penny mind you. At this point the game is far beyond what was ever promised. As you said:

I don't know why you are so quick to argue anything with me here, because it seems like you are in full agreement with me about this game: People really enjoy it, and the graphics could stand to be improved, and would increase it's value.

It probably won't have too much of a sale while in EA.
And, it will probably go up in price when it fully releases.
I would think that, multiple years after release, it'll go down in price again, and then a year after that it will get a good sale. Basically, you could be waiting about 5 years or more just to save roughly $5 off what it is currently sold for. If that's worth it to you that's cool, I usually wait, but this one seemed like a decent deal for the timing.
