Sap collectors don't work unless you stay in the area?

Is it just my imagination or is this true? Seems like every time I come back to my mistlands farm, that has several roots nearby I have collectors on I barely have any sap waiting. I would have thought they would have updated when I got back in the area the way that growing plants works.

I don't think it's a bug but more of a secondary effect of the way the game prioritises elements of the surrunding areas or recently visited areas.
Similar to minecraft, the game runs on seeds, and "chunks".
Maybe the game is designed to prioritise chunks of the map the player regularly visits and reduces the priority of the ones the player never goes to, adding to that the most recent chunks the player visited.

Lets say i always visit the same 5 chunks, but then i go on exploration, the game will remember those 5 chunk and may still consider making my boars reproduce, but if i stop going there for 3h and i visited 40 additionnal chunk, teleported back to my 4 other most visited ones but not the fifth one for a long time, then the game may put it in low priority and then the sap will not accumulate in the extractor.

I am only speculating here, but if i was a game designer given a project like valheim i would most likely try to optimise the game like that or in a similar way of giving priorities to some limited numbers of chunk of the map at the same time to avoid overloading the RAM

^^ If you pay attention, it does not work that way. It time lapses the cell you are currently in to catch up as needed. You can see this when you portal into a large farm and poof, after a few seconds all the produce turns mature, or if you come back to a kiln/smelter you sometimes hear it make the production noise a bunch of times quickly (does this if you sleep too). Its not too inefficient, but they should maybe take a pass at masking the behavior a little better, at least mute the sounds or stagger the crop maturation over like 30 sec.

At the beginning we had 2 extractor placed on their respective root.
Everytime we went there they were at 10/10
One day we installed more extractor, 3 extractor on each root, on the same roots, at that moment it started to really slow down. When we went there the extractors only had respectively 1/10, 5/10, 1/10.

So we divided the extractor among more roots and it solved the issue.

If you have 2 extractors per root it will take a bit longer to fill up but it should do the work, but more than that wont be great.

We have never moved the three that we have and they "eventually" start to produce again.. it doesn't really matter.. it just depends how quickly you want the sap but they definitely work and collect collect it when you are not around.

I have 3 roots at my sap/farm base and the first one barely regens by the time the third is dead, if that helps.
Thankfully, after an initial large quantity, you don't need that much of it.
You would need a LOT of handy roots to justify running more than 1 extractor.

Well you actually need hundreds of it... plus you may want to cumulate a bit more for the future update when they will let us upgrade the new gear that is currently topped at lvl 2.

And there is also some receipes which need the sap.

Yeah I intend to craft everything and try them all out before I decide what I'm gonna focus on, but that is gonna take a LOT of sap, as I intend to run around with 2 magic and 1 health food when I use staves. I will be running through a lot more sap to make porridge with.

My experience: I have 2 sap farms, with 3 suckers on 2 roots. They are super far from my base, and I portal there. Every few game days, I port there and they are full, every single time.

It is infinite, as far as I can tell, and you do not have to be there, either.

Yeah, if you are not removing them and letting the root regenerate then they just very slowly pump out one sap at a time.

Have 1 collector per root, find a spot with several roots in place, make a portal there, put one on each root, go back every now and then, there you go, infinite sap.

The roots will slowly regenerate back to full health. But if you have several extractors they won't do a whole lot, takes too long to fill up.

i have 5 collectors in one place (different roots) and sometimes the'll just sit at 0/10 for days until i go there and check up on them. Then they'll slowly start to fill up.

Happens mostly after i log out right after collecting the sap, and if i don't visit mistlands they'll just sit there 0/10 until i check out my mistlands area again
