Stealh pointless?
Hi, first of all i love this game. I feel so bad for not trying it out earlier. :)
Iam pretty advanced now in the game i think (killed bonemass) and now exploring the world further.
In the beginning i kind of liked the idea of using a stealth approach but later on i realized its pretty much pointless because its not the "usual" stealth.
There are some daggers in the game and are there plans for making stealth more reliable/fun?
Because right now i dont feel it beeing very useful.

Ok so thats close to my experience.
I guess its good then for a strong opener on big single enemies and for hunting.
@Ryzilynt
Could you explain a little bit more how you use stealth for taming without a pen?
Do you just stay around the lox and feed it?

Thats how I did it when I tamed my current Lox herd. I have a farm in the plains, raised up terrain and built up on top of it. I simply shoot 1 wood arrow at or near a Lox to aggro it, and throw a stack of cloud berries at them (in range of bench) and wait for them to calm down.
Taming is a decent way to upgrade your sneak skill, and also kill time while you wait for your animal to tame up. I tend to sneak walk into a bunch of beehives I have built over an old tree stump, while I wait.
After a few moments, let them calm down, and wait for them to eat & begin to tame. No pen or cage even needed, I just release them back into the wild, but tamed. Others I transport on Longship to other places, including my fort.

Bit too niche its reduced to one weapon type and worth stab only on big secluded prey. Everything else can be done reliably and alot faster by caveman run-ins with heavy club in hand or few shots with bow.

The only real use I found was for early game dungeon crawling. You have a lot more control over the skeleton situation if you don't give away your presence before you can see them. You can be certain that it will find more use again whenever these mountain caves arrive.
In the overworld sneaking seems fairly pointless. It is rare that you would need to sneak past an enemy when you can run really wide of them. Getting caught isn't that bad either as so few enemies are able to navigate fast enough to keep up with a fleeing player.
And if I intend to snipe something, there's barely ever a reason not to do it the moment they pass into my vision. I suppose there are a lot of people who need to get much closer before they feel confident about the shot they are taking, but that isn't me.
And the dagger? Don't really care for it. Too situational to be worth the slot. If I'm going into melee range at all it is because I want to be quick. None of this slow crouch-walking nonsense.

Sneak around behind lox, the skill goes up way faster and you can tame them in the process, no need to build a pen or anything. Just run away if they see you. I'm hoping it gets better at higher levels , i'm at i think 68 sneak right now.

there are only a few specific uses
1. Deer hunting
2. Stone golem hunting - it's good to make overpowered first hit for like half hp.

The dagger has a massive multiplier for sneak attacks. Couple that with the leap attack that the dagger provides as a secondary and you can start seeing damage in the hundreds for your first strike.
It's admittedly niche but if you want to go full assassin that's the way to do it

I had a friend sneak into a troll cave and steal its treasure before leaving. I would say that under certain circumstances sneak is a viable skill and is in fact useful.

If you are behind cover in stealth mode, as soon as you pull the bow you pop-up from and become momentarily more visible, but the instant you release you pop back down again, taking cover. Hitting anything with a bow shot from stealth mode also multiplies the impact by a lot.
By keeping an eye n the the little eye-con, you can tell how visible you are. Making noise defeats stealth, as does moving when your quarry is looking your way.

Stealth is usefull only as an opener, so it's useful to approach a boss type enemy (troll, abomination) and use the alt-attack on them with a dagger to almost one-shot them, making the fight a breeze.
It takes some patience, because stealth in this game is simulationist: it removes the sounds you make approaching, but if they see you they detect you. It's not the "invisibility circle" most games pass as stealth.
Also...you can get the backstab bonus if the enemy hasn't detected you, so shooting from afar with bow gives you x3 damage.

It's also very handy for taming aggressive wildlife, but yeah it's never going to be your primary solution to combat. Much more useful in multiplayer for sneaking big hits on enemies already distracted by your partner.

Almost useless. They should rework the mechanic. Now, if you shoot the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ goblin in the head 200 yards away and immediately hide, rest of them run directly to you. Night, fog, rain, 100 metters, camouflage, silent weapon. And they always know exactly where you are. Eh?
Snipers should cry and kill themselves.

As landorf said , its useless in mountain / plains because groups ( golems sometimes has more stealth than you haha ) , even loxes that before H&H was easy to stealth and loose agro because them was really dumbs , now acts just like fulings if them detects you and their pathfinding is also good so you cant just loose them
Only for taming works not for stealth kill
