Finding a hidden/stuck chicken?

So I put 2 chickens in the basement of a dverger building (has stairecase going down) and one of the chicken suddenly disappeared when i wasnt looking. however I dont think its dead because I can hear 2 chickens chirping and i hear the 2 seperate footsteps. if i push one away i can hear the other set of foodsteps like either in a wall or maybe under the ground? Im not sure what to do, and I just wasted all my money buying both eggs. is there anything i can do to possibly unglitch the 2nd chicken or even find out where its at?

I was gonna do that, but i was told the walls inside the dverger place are not craftable by my friend

There are some pieces (namely the really tall walls down inside the underground part of the tower) that you cannot craft, but I know you can repair them and I think you can destroy them with the hammer if you have a stonecutter. Otherwise, you can smash them. You can't put them back exactly but you can build the big cube blocks up to do the same thing basically.

Also, please take your chickens to a secure meadows base to start breeding them. Once you have a stock of extra eggs, then do what you want. And if you can't find the other chicken, there are always devcommands to spawn another egg. I personally don't mind using them if a game glitch or saving error caused me a significant loss.

Yeah thats where the chickens were, I figured since we were not using the bottom of it I would put the chickens there. I probably should put something to stop it from going up the staircase in hindesight. I didnt know you could find chickens... where do you find them? I only got them because I bought 2 eggs from merchant after farming money for a like an hour or two

You can't "find" chickens. I was referring to locating the one you lost. And horizontal wooden beams or wood half-walls are easy for you to jump over while preventing chickens from going past. If you can't be bothered to jump over a small barrier or need to be able to traverse it whilst encumbered, then cattle-guards are the way to go. You can walk right over them, but critters won't even try.

Are chickens the same was as other tames where they wont tame/mate unless you are near them? We dont go to meadows anymore, our main base is in mistlands now so even If i made a safe spot in meadows (which is probably impossible now unless i buy 2 new eggs) i dont think they will ever make babies

You have to buy at least two eggs from the trader after killing Yagluth. They must be kept warm in range of a fire, but make sure they can't access the fire because they will find a way to go stand in it, briefly.

And yeah I think you have to be nearby for them to lay eggs. They are tricky and will drop eggs through walls occasionally, and hatch through walls as you found out. Any chicken coup should have a second fence around it to catch the odd stray. I built a barn in my base with a short half wall surrounding it. I advise centering the doors instead of putting them in the corner because those chickens will pile up in the corner. Or if you are good at round buildings that might be a solution.

I checked the floor, dug like twice the height of the character down and didnt find them. the sound of footsteps seems to be coming form the walls , could they somehow be there?
