So if I was wanting to play with random people on a server, is that possible? Looks like you need a password to get on any server

Pretty much every server has a password because if it didn't, anyone could join, run to the main base, steal/destroy whatever they wanted, and then leave.

If you want to play with people, find out how to contact them, or host your own. There's a Looking for Group section on these forums.

Most servers will have a password because people online are like the majority of people you meet in real life... a waste of space.

Search the forums here, people have posted their 24/7 servers and the password to enter them.

A few moons ago, I started alone and in just build mode (cheat mode you could say) didnt kill anything, just learned how to build. Its my favorite aspect of the game. Once I learned that, i ventured out and got into a vanilla server and met some of the greatest people I know. We all hung out and then found a modded server and made even more friends, Just waiting on official Mistlands to come out so we can all get back together and play. Its all about the community you join and if you are willing to do your part and learn and make friends, Ive been lucky and havent had it be toxic like some other games. Just experiment and if you dont like where you are, quit and move on. Its just a game.

I played alone ag first but my friends and I started a world I joined. I still play alone sometimes.

I'd say with friends it's always more fun but it just depends how well you like being with your group.

It can be fun in a group or solo. It really depends on the people you play with.

As mentioned above it heavily depends on the ones you play with, but also depends on you yourself. A bit of a mix of both. If you're unsure you can try the game solo for a bit and see if it seems too boring for ya.

As to OP's question, I find the game to be best played with friends. It's okay solo, but - at least in my case - gets kinda lonely and boring after not very long at a time.

Unlike some other survival games like ARC or Conan Valheim is not too grindy solo. You can do anything you want in a reasonable time alone. Of course, most of the content is easier with others as long as they are not jerks.
I did not really check myself, but I get an impression that Valheim community is not overly toxic to new players, so it should be easy enough to find normal people to play with if you wish.

I just bought the game myself and play a lot alone to learn it and a little bit with a friend who isn't into it that much. Maybe just learning the basics alone could be less stressful than immidiatly joining seasoned veterans? Idk, try both you can move your character between worlds so try what you like best.
