I had the same issue, is a bug. The ship was hitting an invisible object


In my case, the ship was under a wood structure projected over the sea. I moved it from there because the ship was getting hit, but it didn't matter, the ship kept breaking. Restarted the server and the game updated with the ship's new location away from the structure.

had this happen a few times, it's like the boat lags out for a second or 2 and drops down into the water hard. i wasn't even in it, it was parked on the side my base. i logged out and back in but it was still happening but that was a few weeks ago, it hasn't happened since.

There was a bug reported some weeks back about this issue. I thought it was fixed but maybe not.

I play the game with my wife and the last time we were in a boat together was about 10 days ago and sailing on calm flat seas our boat was taking 10 dmg regularly.

Just had the same issue , calmish sea suddenly boat was stuck and waves going over the top. on my multiplayer server.
I had to swim to shore and logout and back in to free my boat.
Also noticed the sea when on shore seemed to change height very rapidly before settling back down to normal.

seems to happen then not happen, quite sporadic
