Technically, you can go there at any time. When is a good time? Never, really. Even with your best armor and weapons they can still deal deadly damage against you. It's wise to get good with the bow and kill them from afar. Watch out for Fulings too, they're even worse, especially if they're able to gang up on you.

nah , with full silver do 27 damage and full padded 15 damge , on a hp pool of 210-245 hp thats nothing ,but in other story 2* fuling can do 140 damage if u do not parry them with full padded , and u most have a farm in plains for barley , so thats "never" its not true

Depends on your skill and timing as well as your audio level, being able to hear buzzing from deathsquitos or giggling from fulins will help massively, being able to hit/parry squitos from good timing will make them no threat at all, you could pull off killing squtios in iron and one or two fulins but not an entire fulin village that is a real challange, using rocks that fulins can't climb is a good place to squat while you pick them off with a bow, if you're an average player then go with silver gear like most have already said

You can with bronze shield troll armour, i don't know about you guys but as a new player i got rags then leather then troll gear then silver bronze and iron waste of time just make the tools weapons you use

You can kill deathsquitos, naked and foodless with a shield and sword. Hold shield up, absorb the hit, counterstike. Done.

...yeah, go try that with a wooden shield right now and tell me how it works out for you. Even with a lvl 3 bronze buckler you still have to parry or the attack will bleed through and stagger you, preventing a counter-attack.

Silver armor for sure. Use a bow at a distance to take skeeters out. If they come close, one hit will kill them. I don’t know why people block them first, there’s no need. Just time your swing right and it’s a done deal. Keep your ears open and you can hear them coming.

What you are wearing for armor matters far less than how prepared you are in other areas.
I often have no issues surviving in the plains with troll armor, for example.

What matters more is that you are AWARE of your surroundings at all times.... spot them before they spot you.

FOODS... make sure you are eating the best possible foods you can prepare... Im not talking about neck meat , berries and mushrooms.... you need to be eating things such as blood sausage, serpent steaks turnip stew etc.

RESTED bonus (time by a fire will give it) for that extra hp and stamina regen speed.

Deathsquitos are actually the least dangerous thing in the plains and can be killed with one hit of any weapon or tool.

Just remember that no amount of deathsquitos in the world can hit you if you remember the 5 D's..... Dodge, Dip, Dive, Duck and Dodge.

shields and timing your blocks help a lot with them. though i don't know when armor gets good enough to stop a complete one shot as i started killing them with ease when i had copper armor. i was waiting for my friend before fighting the forest boss so i couldn't get iron at the time and came across the plains.

Silver armor. With maxed out silver armor, you barely notice getting hit in the back by a deathsquito. They'll do like 15 damage at that point and you'll have at least 150 health most of the time.

My wife hunts on the Plains getting the needles for arrows. She'll shoot them if they are far enough away using flint arrows and a Huntsman bow, or use her iron axe. Her bronze armor is at level 2. She doesn't get one-shotted, but she'll be in trouble with two. She doesn't give them the second shot. My wife's pretty badass. :)

Going into the plains too early makes deathsquitos terrifying. They're pretty trivial, however, when you get there following the intended biome/equipment/boss progression.

Once you have max-lv silver armour (as you should at that point) they become a minor inconvenience, esp if you're using a shield (also highly recommended).

Deathsquitos only have 10HP, so I always carry a stack of cheap wood arrows just for killing them. 90% of the time I'll snipe them from a good distance, but up close a good parry-smack is even easier thb. The AI is slow and predictable, attacking only at long intervals.

Deathsquitos aren't an issue if you are vigilant. Even in black forest gear like troll armor and food you can take several shots from them. If you're oblivious they'll kick your ass. Mostly you can snipe them. Fulings are much nastier however.

I would say, full Silver armor
