Ground level changes on its own
There is a section of ground (~2x5 section), part of a larger raised ground, that I lowered and leveled. After doing some other task, I come back and now the ground has a huge crater. So I thought the logical thing to do is to raise the ground and flatten. Again when I come back, there is a mountain of dirt on the section. Not sure what triggers the change yet, but it seems like an unending battle. I think I will try the 'optterrain ' command even though this game started with the latest updates. I have tried closing out the game and logging back in, but that did not fix the issue.
Has anyone encountered this issue and, if so, were you able to find a fix?
Thanks!

I don't know how but it looks to have gone away. Not sure if this had anything to do with it:
1) stopped raising the dirt;
2) dig the hole larger on all sizes (if the pickaxe causes the dirt to pop back up then leave it alone);
3) check the hole periodically to see if changes level on its own (several game days);
4) raise dirt to desired level.
Once the land was level, I left it alone again & used the hoe to test the ground (w/ level ground setting). All that and I have had no issues. Just black magic. Sorry I don't have a better explanation.

I've experienced the same thing, no idea what causes it.

I had a similar issue when I leveled the ground to build a large house with a connecting craft area. The next night and there is a pi;e of ground almost blocking the door, so i level it down and the next day it is back. I leveled it again but used a pick to knock it down before using the how. It has not returned.

Interesting thing though. Perhaps it is like the unstable buildings which are stable for a moment an later you find some wood on the floor and wonder why it fell. Did not have it in my world so far. But looking forward to the reply of the developers...

I mod....heavily.
It helps me deal with a bad hand, so I don't worry about it in the overall scheme of things. Besides, I now have a HUGE walled castle-town with a moat and am loving it as a base builder

The 'optterrain' did not optimize so no change there. I decided I would wait until the area formed a crater to dig further around in the slim chance digging would remove the "bad" section. The first time I hit the bottom with a pickaxe, the surrounding ground shot up to be almost level with the ground level of my base. The depth is about two large stone walls high. But to make things even more confusing, the next time the crater appeared, the ground didn't pop back up so I dug around the area in all directions. Now I'm waiting to see what happens before I try filling in the hole.
