There's a very simple, easy to use mod that can lower or even disable fog without turning down graphics.

Fog in the Plains is horrible and takes forever to bugger off. I basically don't bother doing any adventuring if I can avoid it when it's foggy or I just move to a different biome. I have a big lox farm on a cross-section of Meadow/Forest/Plains and literally walk a few feet to the other biomes and the weather changes.

I'd actually love weather patterns to be based on land-mass. Like, an island down south is raining but a different island is sunny, regardless of what biomes are there.

The only time it annoys me is when I get it inside a building.

Yeah, i'm going through a lot of foggy days too. Fog in the Plains is very dangerous...but, I've had lots of sunny days in a row to, so, nothing to do but wait for the fog season to end.

I wish the weather would be different in far parts of the world, fog in one biome, sun in another, rain in a third. Ah well, adjust and adapt play-style is the key to survival...

I mean I don't get it as often as it sounds like you're getting, but I'll admit it can be oppressive at times. Not against it on occasion or when storming and things like that though. Some biomes it seems more common in though, like Plains.

Right, but seriously how long should fog last on the Plains? It should burn off shortly after sunrise. Same thing when I'm on the water, unless I'm right up against land I usually have fog.

The sun effects are just as bad.
