If all else fails, use a Stagbreaker or Iron Sledgehammer. Once in an appropriate area/altitude, start hitting the ground. If/when you see a msg, "Too Hard", there's silver underneath. You'll also get that msg. near obsidian, so hit away from them.

I find altitude is the usual culprit when not pinging in the mountains. The overall size of the mountain area may be so small that the peaks are not high enough. You have to be up to obsidian level to find silver, usually.

Another way to test it is find a group of vertical, standing stones in the shape and size of a longship in a meadow. You have a about a 95%+ chance of treasure being there, an equipped wishbone should ping while inside the "ship" perimeter.

Had similar issue. Thought my wishbone wasn't working. Just wasn't anything for it to find. Worked once i got to undiscovered area.

I had something like this before but i can't tell if it was a bug or nothing there. Now i have a hidden area by my current base and use that for testing to see if the wishbone is bugged or not.

Did it start working later? I remember earlier it was constantly doing its "radar-sound", but now it's just silent.

It should only ping when close to a node.<or something of value buried>

If it won't work just make sure you are at a high enough altitude and look for 3 way humps in the snow and just dig.

If you find stone golems you can be 95% sure there is silver around... certainly at that altitude or higher.
