:) I'm curious how you died using the raft? If you fall off the only way back on is via the ladder which if I remember is at the back of it.

I take it you are eating food. If you are just entering the Black Forest biome then you should have cooked deer, boar and neck meat along with berries, mushrooms and maybe honey at least. 2 meats and one of the other 3 should help you stay alive.

Hmm what wizard_of_woz said will help too. I was assuming you died swimming across a wide river but if you were heading out to sea then yeah not a good idea this early on. It is doable but not usually necessary.

You learn pretty quick that strategy is constantly needed when playing this game. And for that you have to understand various mechanics like stamina and health. It's not easy to notice, but the raft has a ladder on the back side that lets you get back up. If you fell out and didn't see this then yeah your stamina would eventually run out from swimming, and subsequently your health. I have actually crossed pretty far just on a raft. It's possible to do it as long as you aren't cut off by a serpent.

Swim out after you eat your best foods for most stamina.
Go as far as you can and stop.
Log out.
Log back in.
You will have full stamina again.
Repeat to get your stuff.

edit add- I try not to abuse it but getting on ladder in heavy seas...well it isn't the easiest to begin with. Spawning back in but ship moved a bit so you have to swim around to find it. That sort of thing... good for learning.

antlers can be collected when you beat Eikthyr only (or thru cheats)
Eikthyr can be summoned even after you first defeated him, so its techniacally and endless supply of antlers

if not good euipped only spawn one Eikthyr at a time otherwise you might have massive issues

the other method is the troll farm method - find a ore deposit in the black forest and lure a troll to that place
now kite the troll over the deposit to force him AOEing and destroying the deposit wich give you the ore - i dont recommend doing this until you know what you are doing (and it feels kinda lame imho)

or maybe make a new random world - defeat eikthyr there and get the pickaxes in the required amount and bring them back into your main world to use them there (might take away a bit of the game experience but you defeated Eikthyr the legit way and earned your right to use the pickaxes)

Thanks...I lost all my items tring to cross a river and since it is so far out I am unable to retrieve them....not sure what to do except maybe start over I guess. Kinda lame to have to do this.

you could possibly and temporarily use the devcommads to get your items back

what is a devcommands? I am new to this game. Is it possible to build a raft and float tothem somehow? If possible how would I move the raft directionally?

When you defeat the first boss (Eikthyr) you get several antlers. Three iirc.

Are you saying that you were carrying all 3, died in a river and now can't retrieve your gear? OR was it only 1 you lost and the others either need to be made or repaired?

I'm guessing here that you drowned in the river and weren't killed by mobs. Your death marker will float so maybe go to the river and then eat 3 types of food that give you the most stamina. Raspberries, red mushrooms and deer meat maybe? Make sure you have plenty of room in your inventory and retrieve your gear.

I don't know if this still works but logging out and back into the game used to return you with full stamina. So you could test that and if you're still running out of stamina with good food you could log out and in.

My tip (for this early in the game) is don't take all your pickaxes with you. You can't carry a lot of ore and using up 1 pickaxe will likely get you fully loaded.

Yes you can build a raft. You go to the oar on the raft and press "E" to use it. Then control it with "WASD". Pressing W once you row, twice half lowers the sail and three times completly lowers the sail. You need to press S to slow down or go backwards. If you have the sail fully lowered you will need to press S 4 times to actually start paddling backwards.

Have your build hammer equipped and right click to bring up the build menu. Select the misc tab and if unlocked the raft is in that tab.
