My 660+ hours world just got f###ed.
All buildings gone. Only map is still like it was. I feel... empty.

@Requimatic is spot on. If you fall for the 'cloud' be ready for some rainy days.

Well, i lost all my buildings and equipment. I've read the fixes, but they leave out important steps. Would someone please give me detailed instructions on how to recover my stuff? I've put over a thousand hours into this game. That may be it.

Too many people losing their progress due to the "fix". Can't the devs design the game such that it automatically backups the saves when the version changes?

Well, for me it was the files in the appdata/locallow/irongate/valheim folder. As mentioned above by Polonius Ulf, there is a shortcut to that folder on the startup screen. It is a bit hard to detect, it is a very small white writing in the left bottom of the main menu. Well, i lost all my buildings and equipment. I've read the fixes, but they leave out important steps. There you'll find folders like "world" and "character". If you are lucky, there are files in the "world" folder that have the ending ".old" (look at the date of these, I hope they are older than when your loss happened). Delete the ending ".old" from these files names.
What I did was to delete the current world where all my buildings and everything had disappeared, and then I did the described steps. My world was shown in the seed selection again, in an slightly older state.
I hope that works for you.

Although I understand the disappointment, please let us not make this a rant thread (even if I started it as such ;-)), but instead try to find solutions here. Instead of relying on hilariously-bad "cLoUd CoMpUtInG!1one!1", I would instead create a .bat file to just double-click after every time you play to make manual backups of your character/world.
The only real difficult part in doing so is if you also use 7zip and want to pack them in rar/zip/7z files.

Sadly hats going around with a cloud save update so unless you backed your world up i dont think theres anything you can do unless they can retrieve it for you somehow

Holy moly. I just found an old back up in the appdata locallow folder, and could use it to replace the recent file. Only lost a weeks progress this way, and even doubled my worn gear. I take this as a warning. Create Back Ups of world and character and store them away safely. Or just quit gaming, it is a life stealer

On the lower left corner of Valheim's startup screen is a white button labeled "View log file."
What it actually does is open the folder containing the log, which is also the data folder. Navigate up one level, right click on the "Valheim" folder to copy everything. Make sure this folder is included in your backups.
