Major updates are really slow, I'm worried about this game

I love this game to death, but my only complaint right now is a lack of new content. With a game this popular and successful, I find it worrying that it's taking this long to come out with a single substantial update. It's an amazing game, but so desperately in need of new stuff. I don't even think Hearth and Home has a release date yet, only a Q3 2021 window? (We're currently in Q3.)

I'm worried for this game's playerbase and success because of this. It caught lightning in a bottle, but I'm afraid content taking this long to come out is going to seriously hurt it, especially since it's an early access game. I know I've lost interest because of it, I'd imagine it's the same case for a lot of other people.

Hell, none of the smaller updates they put out never seem all that exciting either, although I could be forgetting a few. Barely any balance changes, subtle reworks, small improvements, or anything (that I can remember distinctly, at least.) I guess they're saving all these changes for the next major update? I think it'd be a good idea to keep players going with more substantial smaller updates. Throw them in to stir up the game a little to keep players going until the next major update.

I was so happy when this game was so high up on the top player charts on Steam, but I'm sad that it's going to lose so much steam due to how long the updates are taking. If they can't put them out any faster, I understand. I just ask we get smaller updates to tide us over at least, is all.

For early access games there should be plenty of communication and progress being shown. If there isn't, the people who bought the game have a reason to worry. *Especially* if the game did as amazingly well as this.

I'm itching for news too, and I suspect we will get some here in August. Q3 is usually the start of Fall which is August and September.
Uhh... No? Q3 is July 1st to September 30th. You're backwards on it.

Well, maybe not backwards, but you're still wrong. We're already a good 4 weeks or so into Q3.

In my opinion, if you've got a major update planned for Q3 and it's almost a full month into Q3 with no concrete release date yet announced, it makes me think one of two things.
1. Your communication is poor, and really needs to be improved.
2. You haven't announced a release date yet because it's going to be pushed back even further.

Option 1 is fixed directly with better communication, and Option 2 is fixed with communication as well. It's an early access game, consumers have a right to urge devs to share insight into how their early access game's development is going. I don't know how you could argue against this, really.

This is an Early Access game, not a Live Service. You seem to be confused as to the difference as you have Live Service expectations from an Early Access game.
Live Services care about a high constant player count because they need it to milk customers via subscription fees and microtransactions, Early Access does not and should be focused on a Quality product.
There is has been tons of communication and a whole wealth of information available if one chooses to actually look for it.
The devs had made it clear the reason things got delayed, and when to expect the next update, and they aren't going to push out a janky unfinished update just to appease those who have the expectations of a Live Service Game from an Early Access game.
These demands for constant updates and 24/7 entertainment over quality is exactly what has led to so many crappy broken game releases. It's also the difference that has caused once stellar companies players loved like Blizzard to become loathed because they have forgone Quality for Quantity.
It's fine to be unhappy with the initial delays, but they have announced the reasons, when to expect things, and what, and making the 500th thread about the very same topic is just being part of the problem. It's the equivalent of asking "ARE WE THERE YET?" every 5 minutes on a cross country road trip.

Honestly, if I were an Early Access Dev, and had people slamming the discussion board and reviews with "No updates in XXX days! abandoned?!" I'd just abandon the damn game. Its not worth the effort and time when people don't understand what they signed up for when buying into an EA title:

"This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."

The developers owe nothing to you or anyone, there is a massive disclaimer warning you that the game you bought, may NEVER move to completion. You chose that. You decided to toss some cash at them in hopes if the game being developed.

Just freakin' relax! Chill. Go play something else for a bit. There are THOUSANDS of other games you can occupy your time with, while the devs of this game work on things. Stop bugging them.

Also, take into consideration that this is a very small group of devs, AND we're still in a rocky world-wide apocalyptic Plague situation. they may have things in their personal lives that gets in the way. They owe no one here an explanation every few days or whatever. I wouldn't want to stop in the middle of my personal life situation, just to type out some sad-sap line of bull, to appease some impatient neckbeard gamers online.

Let them do their thing, and you can do your thing. Everyone just needs to chillax! >_<

it's just a labour of love. People have gotten to used to being spoon feed "content" (*cough*Destiny 2 cancer*cough*), just move on to a different game and let this one rest. Then come back later and appreciate how much more work has been done on it.

Or add some mods, mods make everything better. And Valheim is one of the most mod friendly games i have ever seen.

You know it's an early access game, right? Me asking for an early access game to receive updates / work towards completion isn't me asking to be spoon fed content. It's me asking for the developers to uphold their promise basically, or at the very least give us more insight into how their progress is going.

It's not really unreasonable of me to want content / progress reports on content when their first major content update hasn't come in like half a year of the game's release, and they've given us nothing but a Q3 release window, and here we are in Q3 with little to no news on when it's coming out.

No I feel you man. You're right. My friends and I stopped playing after we killed the dragon ♥♥♥♥♥. We'd built everything and felt like we'd done everything.
Hell, I sailed around the entire edge of the map because I was bored.

I get it. small team and whatnot. No really, I do.
But then we got that one update and saw that they bought a horse or something and the only thing I could think of was: This is where our money went.
I wonder if the game hadn't been successful if we'd see the roadmap progress at all. Communication is absolutely key between devs and players, and IMO the occasional paragraph update doesn't inspire enough confidence to keep trust in an industry that regularly discourages it.

And on a personal note, I'd rather see updates with substance rather than another reskin of the troll. Even if it's something small I.E. "Here's a new spot to sit on a longship."
>also on a personal note, I'd like to see the ability to put shields and lanterns on the longships again. Sometimes it's too dark and you don't have a friend who can hold up a light for you.

I'd agree to this if I didn't stop playing months ago, have come back, and only seen a few new textures on enemies and very little different.

I recall way worse teasings over the years. They are literally making the game piece by piece. I am not going to complain about it because I want a polished product, not Viking Cyberpunk 2077.

Okay, I think this is an unnecessary bash at the devs. I can assure little to none of your money went into them getting a horse. Chill out about that. Mind your business.

Mmmost of the rest I agree with you on. The communication with the devs honestly hasn't felt all that great, and the little amount of smaller updates gives me little reason to come back to the game. Even something as small as a weapon rebalance, no matter how small, would give me at least some kind of reason to come back.
