exactly this, so you can mix pieces and trade some armor for a little speed boost.. and yeah the full set with Eikthyr running you can outrun drakes over the mountains, it's pretty good..

I like this set so much more that root : gives you freeze and fire resist , a total of 48 defense and 9% speed and 0 penalties
Maybe one can reach a little more defense using padded helmet , but only having 6% of speed bonus

The speed increase isn't listed as a set bonus. So interpret that as +3%speed per armour piece which would amount to 9% increase in total

Nope. You just might not notice it that much if you already crafted and used better gear.
