Yes but near as I can tell they used to spawn in the same spot. The game kinda created a troll spawn and when you killed one eventually it would respawn but if you were just out in the world and mining or chopping wood a Troll wouldn't spawn in place of the Grey dwarves that harass you. Now they can. (or so it seems) In my case I go by an area... grey dwarves harass me... no troll what so ever anywhere. I go back cut down a tree and from the same place the grey dwarves normally come.. troll. In the other location I mine all the Tin, get the blueberries, clear the crypt, scout the whole area. Few days late go back hit a tree and a troll drops from the same place Grey Dwarves harassed earlier in front of the blue berries.

Previously they had set spawn points (near as I can tell having a base not far from one) Now it is any where any time in the black forest.

So ya RNG can really kick your but now.

The first time I started Valheim I quit after 10 minutes of back-to-back deaths.

After landing, in the rain, I talked to Hugin. Couldn't even read the first line before three things came up from behind to mob me. Hadn't figured out run yet. Punching got me killed quick. Respawn and they're right on me, now four things which I didn't recognize at the time, but it was two boar, one greyling and a neck.

Dead, respawn, dead, respawn... no chance to figure out controls before I'm getting knocked around and dead.

So I quit and thought the all-out aggression and beelining of everything would be too much for my sister and dad to be interested in playing.

My sister wanted to see it anyway, so I deleted that world, started anew... and had a pretty calm and overall almost too easy experience! I wish I'd kept the seed of that obnoxious start.

Trolls also can RNG spawn in place of the Greydwarf groups that harass you out in the world. (I had 2 spawn in two different location that Greydwarves did early in the game, no where near a troll cave.)

So RNG is becoming a major part of the game. As you can just randomly encounter trolls in the Black Forest at any time. I don't know if there is a limit to the number that can spawn into the world... or how close. My experience is they can spawn pretty close.

I don't know if there's really is any relation to troll caves and outside trolls. I've killed trolls outside a troll cave, and then another in the cave, and the don't just spawn around caves. They do seem to spawn (in my observation) at particular locations. i.e. if you kill a troll, then build a base nearby, expect that troll to respawn at some point.
