it's called art design choice. Not every game needs to be photorealistic 4k textures 16gb ram gpu bound, it can just be a celebration of the games of early 2000's, but with modern lighting and post processes. I enjoy it very much, the game is really beautiful even with its simplicity. It reminds me of the first time I played WoW...

...I used a trackball at first for things; I quickly found that configuration and movements for gaming were hurting my thumb something awful. Plugged in my Xbox wired controller....bliss.

I mean, its not a matter of improvements. Its a stylistic choice by the devs and thats about it.
Some games are 2D platformers with that classic look, some are boomer shooters and so on. Its fine to pick out games that have the look that you prefer ofc. Perhaps the style will grow on you. I feel like it creates a surreal valhalla, otherworld matrix feel thats very interesting. But u know, whatever rocks your boat...

Graphics are good, and one can mod for different aesthetics if one wishes. I'm really not phased, to me the graphics is one of valheims features that drew me in. It looked different, not that same as everything else. Among other things

I am actually partial to a trackball, just never found any good one that doesn't cost arm and leg.

It's decent. After one or two playthroughs of the same ol' same ol', you'll probably want to look into modding. (That's the only thing keeping me going.) Definitely think about buying "as is" and not with expectations for updates. It's "worth the price," if that tells you anything.

The low-res appearance was a design choice. We appreciate it here. If you don't like it, either play something else or mod the textures into something you do like.

You don't even had to mod textures, just enable bilinear filtering on them! Mario64 and Ocarina Of Time got it figured out, and a PC game can't?

I remember this topic cropping up almost since the day of launch. The devs made an aesthetic choice and most people happened to like it, that's all.
