Late to this thread. But I host servers myself with a second pc ( a dell workstation). I doesnt use much resources and I host multiple servers with players. All you really need to do is open the necessary ports on your router and thats it.

Save yourself some money and have 100% access to your stuff at all times. Its worth it

Maybe, it can be hard to judge how much hassle hosting at home will be. Definitely worth it if you already have a suitable office alcove for a cheap second computer with a wired router and battery backup for both, but a few dollars a month for a remote service is easier if you're bouncing between parents, college and friends with a gaming laptop.

Sounds like people should just get better internet and host it at home to learn the ropes. I tried various 3rd party hosting services back in the day for Minecraft, but ultimately found them to all be somewhat limiting. I ended up using that opportunity to learn about hosting, setting up firewalls for servers, port forwards, getting into SVN, and further learn about RDP's.

By the way, I very randomly happened upon a few of your posts at the Cubeworld forum! I shouldn't have been surprised, but it was actually nice to read sanity amongst the insane. ^_^

Your own linux server in a well connected colocation/hosting facilty :)

Asking what is the "best" is subjective and relative to you. Since this game is played all over the world, you probably should be looking for hosting services near you so you have the chances for better connectivity to such a server and with pricing and services that best match your wants. Since we don't know your variables, suggesting specific services for you isn't really necessarily going to help you. You just need to do your own due diligence really.

I've had good experiences with G-portal. The first server I rented from them had performance issues, but their customer service was really responsive and had my server moved to a new shard within a couple of hours after opening a ticket.

I'd steer clear of any bandwagon company with Valheim in its name, look for someone with good rep and experience hosting similar older games.

I used to use Nitrado back when I played Ark Survivor evolved. Not sure if they host this game and still have affordable rates.
