I've played seeds with full blown portal hubs...but my recent endeavor involves simply numbering each portal I drop. I'm currently up to 17. I keep one Portal in my main base, that I simply change the number on, to determine which of the 17 portals I go to. I have a 2nd portal in my main base that remains unnamed. That one is always on the ready for a retrun trip from anywhere I drop a brand new portal. So lets say I've wandered too far from the most recent portal I've used and need to get back. I just drop a brand new unnamed portal that connects to the unnamed portal in my main base. I go back to my main base. I then rename my "Variable" portal "18" then go back through the unnamed portal... renamed the unamed portal "18" and voila. I'm back home again, with 18 portals.

Stay away from the Plains until you're ready.

Always have a travel portal ready and the makings of it's mate with you when you explore.

Always make a temp camp with the portal up before you try something new. Temp camps don't need roofs or anything; just a campfire, workbench and your portal.

If you leave your temp camp portal up for more than overnight, you run the risk of critters destroying it while you're gone. If your temp camp is going to be less temporary build a quick 3x3x1 hut with a roof and fireplace (this will take about a stack of wood). Floor is optional, no bed; just portal, workbench and campfire inside the hut.

Yep, sounds about right! lol

In my case it was:

> Try to kill my first Serpent in a Karve far from main base
> Shoot my own boat as much as the Serpent
> 2 shots from killing Serpent it manages to destroy my Karve
> Drown
> Build second Karve and bow/arrows sail back out
> Get too close to Plains biome shoreline and skeeter 1-shots me out of my Karve
> BUILD THIRD KARVE AND SAIL OUT
> Manage to avoid Serpent and skeeters and get my stuff back
> Go to closer Swamp biome and get resources
> BUILD LONGBOAT AND GET REVENGE ON SERPENT
> Shoot two skeeters from a distance to get revenge on those too
> Fin

Fully geared. Make backup armour. Fully upgrade it. + Extra weapons, bows, food and potions.
> Make boat
> Sail to island with big mountain and plains
> Land on beach
Place Portal.
Die to billions of goblins after running into their camp.

Fully-geared Return via portal.
Build Stone base around Portal before exploring further.

Die alot.. until you learn how to deal with fulings and deathsq's
