PSA if entering Swamps for the first time.

While in the Swamps and Sunken Crypts, don't make the same mistake I did!

The arrows in the chests throughout the Swamp biome are not Flinthead Arrows, they're Ironhead Arrows. They look very similar (too similar..), so don't forget to pick them up!

It wasn't until I was about 5 Crypts in to the Swamp that I decided to hover over those arrows and discover that they're Ironhead.. needless to say, I've left behind probably two and a half stacks of them.

The more you know..

Never noticed that in my few hundred hours of play.

Thanks for the heads up!

I might start using some needle arrows for berserkers to save time since I got like 400 needles. What else besides bosses and berserkers really needs more than wood arrows?

True, but considering Fire Arrows are better for nearly everything up to this point, I've been using them. No need to clutter storage/inventory with something I won't use. Fire Arrows are easier to craft anyway, as Flint is annoying to amass.

Normally I do, but when making Iron runs without a cart, you're pretty limited on space; even with the belt. I can carry ~35-40 pieces at a time with all essential items and literally run them back to a chest not far from my base.

Sadly, there are numerous streams/creeks I have to cross to get back to my base that I can't reliably build a road/bridge for; so doing it this way, using Eikthyr, is faster for me.
Nope , fire arrows only works well finishing black forest ( but trolls , for them are far better flinthead than fire ) , everything in swamps resist fire so nope , and in the time you are in the mountain you can craft obsidian or frost arrows

I mean, the damage between Wood and, say, Ironhead Arrows is rather steep.. but realistically, nothing outside of bosses really warrants any current-tier arrows. It's why I've been using the mass amount I gathered/crafted for the Black Forest; they work pretty well in the Swamp, provided you get the drop on the enemy.

I guess if you're unlucky and Snipe a Draugr Elite from afar and it happens to be 2-star, well.. ready your shield or dig a hole and hope it doesn't fall in with you, heh.

Fire are perfectly fine for basically everything except maybe Bonemass. I mean, they aren't going to deal much damage to a starred Draugr Elite, but are fully capable of one-shotting everything else. And if it doesn't, the Fire ticks will finish them off.

That's been my experience so far, anyway.. and I only just crafted the Huntsman Bow and upgraded it; I'd been using Finewood until just a bit ago. If I run up on anything starred in the Swamps, I simply melee them and they die readily enough. Bow is basically for annoying things like Wraiths or Draugr I see before they see me.

As far as being "better", they're far better to use than wasting Iron (or Bronze) on arrows.. unless you've already crafted everything else, or have a massive stockpile of them from Crypt/Swamp chests anyway. I would actually go on a limb and say not to craft a set of Bronze Armor, but instead use that Bronze on Arrows instead.. probably a better use.

I still have a pretty large stockpile of Fire Arrows, so I've been using them to great success; but I don't expect them to do too well outside of the Swamp. I'll probably stay a tier behind and switch to Ironheads once I'm done with Bonemass, in an effort to save Silver/Obsidian for other stuff the way I've done with Iron.

There is where your and I differ. I love building, so I make decent sized bases. Due to this, I struggle with resin collecting. I know that sounds crazy with the amount of greydwarves that swarm, but when you have multiple bases as described, and all the other things to do (farming, hunting, repair, etc), it makes it rough solo.

Need the resin for torches. So.. Flinthead arrows are very welcome.

Actually, now my gf took interest in Valheim and does my farming and making food and arrows. Now she complains I am wiping out the food and ammo lol. It's like running around as Ragnar Lothbrok with the wife taking along nagging the whole way. 😆

Like in Minecraft, I hoard as much as I can and will pick up as much as I can. However, thanks for the tip. I'm sure some people might have passed those on, thinking they're regular arrows.

My next base, and probably my final one when I can make the Darkwood stuff, I'll really go all-out on. My Meadows base isn't too shabby, albeit small, but the one I'm in now I've managed to.. stuff a lot in to.

Some of the Forge upgrades having space requirements was.. not expected. And I had to put the Tanning Rack upstairs above my Workbench, haha.

So, in that regard, when I pillage the land of all trees to make use of for the next base, since I'll have learned from my current mistakes, I'm sure I'll run in to the Resin problem.. haha. I remember pretty vividly being boned before H&H when I ran out of Flint, because I'd quite literally razed them all from the Meadows I was in.

Edit: IN FACT.. that is what drove me to sail across some Ocean to find another Meadows. When I landed, and started building a little storage base, was also the time I learned that particular Meadows was connected directly to a Plains biome.. and that the locals were not happy with me being there.

Needless to say I took a little break from the game at that point.

I tend to do that, too, except when items are a downgrade. In this case, for example: I have an excess of Resin and no real need for Flint any longer, so I assumed that the very similar-looking Ironhead Arrows were Flintheads.. and just left 'em there.

I think the icon needs a pretty prominent color change for the tips of the arrows.. haha.

ALSO WHEN DO WE GET GREEN FIRE/TORCHES? I know we get blue, but I can't stand seeing all the neat green ones in the Crypts!

Honestly, a totally awesome feature would be to allow for the coloration of all things fire-related via extra materials. Stone + Wood = Orange Fire; Stone + Wood + Greydwarf Eye = Blue Fire (since Greydwarf Eyes are used for this anyway in Torches); Stone + Wood + Copper Ore OR Bar = Green Fire.. so on and so on. :)

If you dont want to mod or cheese your game,.... you choose to suffer
Well stuff you can teleport you can still move easy
Make a small base in every biome you come along, with a Teleporter.
teleport everything you can and move only the not teleportable stuff with a Boat or Cart

That meadow connected to a plains is a key part of the game for resource collecting, I built small bases in 2 such places, 1 is a dark forest borders the swamp in a corner, the other is a meadows in a corner bordered by a plains.
You can get alot of resources without having to do much lol, its also a way to easily get your hands on higher tier items than you would otherwise be ready for, just build a tiny house surrounded by raised stone/mud, the only thing that could get you is a wraith or a deathsquito flying over

Yeah, I don't use mods for this game. I know there's a lot of non-game-breaking quality of life ones, but still; I prefer vanilla. (Also I don't want my saves borked after an update, just in case.)

And holy crap I didn't know you could actually get that stuff! Thanks for that!

Yeah, at the time I hadn't even beaten Elder yet; it was shortly after the game released. I ran completely out of Flint and decided I just needed to go find a different Meadows to gather some more.. and found a lot more than I could handle. I also didn't think about raising any walls or anything to protect myself from Fulings, haha.
