Help with server commands
I have recently run into an issue where the server crashed while we were at sea, deleted the boat and dumped us at sea, I would like to leverage my admin privileges to repair the issue but can't for the life of me figure out how to get commands like god, fly and spawn working on the server. How the heck do I do that ?
Save and such works but I keep getting "command" is not valid in the current context.

Sorry, but who isn't reading my comments ?
Assume that when I'm talking about headless server, admin lists, commands reporting "command" is not valid in this context, that my level of competence is higher than not knowing how to open the console.
My problem, maybe not clearly enough stated, is that on my dedicated computer, running a dedicated, headless server, commands like killall, spawn etc. are not being executed. Save etc works fine, the basic admin commands, but I needed to execute cheats to repair lost playtime due to a crash. I had to move the world files to my main machine and host it to get them to work.
Apologies, the lack of viable information and the rage from the server crashing for no apparent reason still lingers.

what happens when you enter 'devcommands' in the debug (F5) window? Without seeing your config or knowing your experience level server management i would have to guess one of the following is true;
you don't have high enough remote admin privileges for the server. Check the adminlist.txt file to make sure your player is listed.
or
you haven't enabled the devcommands to allow god, etc, to be used.
I just checked on my server, I could use the save and ofther commands you say are working without enabling the devcommands flag. trying to set the god status cave the error you mentioned. once the 'devcommands' was enabled god and the rest worked fine on my system.
hope this helps. Good luck

How are you supposed to admin servers hosted on remote data centers? Start a telnet session? Devcommands only work when you are the host of the session.
Meaning, devcommands don't work on dedicated servers since the server is hosting the game and you are only a peer, even with admin rights.
You can get around it by either
- transfer the savefile to your local machine, run in SP, modify what you want to modify and transfer it back to the server
or
- use a cheat mod
And what is the use of the adminlist.txt file on the server if not to let remote clients have admin right?
if it really is limited in the way you describe then whoever programmed the server at IG is completely incompetent since it goes against every single concept of a "server" I've ever heard of in 20+ years managing corporate server rooms.

adminlist.txt and thus admin rights on a remote machine let you kick and ban other players. Thats about it.

thanks for the clarification. I don't do the admin of the private server my group plays on so the limitations of adminlist.txt has never come up, plus we've never had to ban anyone, yet :)How are you supposed to admin servers hosted on remote data centers? Start a telnet session?

Somebody at IG should NOT be writting code for the game if they over looked such an obvious use case for remote use of devcommands.

You have to type devcommands and then type debugmode. Then you can press b in the game to enable/disable free build. And I think z is fly mode. God mode I think you type god in the f5 command screen

Everything is working when I host on the same machine but not on my other computer running a headless server. I put my ID in the adminlist but it still wouldn't work for some reason unless I'm doing it wrong... used the wrong number or something.
