Thats not true, i had a 1 star and a non star, there was a chance for a star offspring.
So now i only have one stars.
i think the machanics for this is that the child inherit the stars of 1 parent. meaning if 2 x 0stars breed = 100% 0 star offspring no chance for it to be 1 or 2 star. if 1star + 0star breed = 50% that child will be 0 star and 50% that it'll be 1star. 0% chance that it'll be 2star. etc

Very strange.
that's strange indeed. as long as they are tamed, fed and there are no more then ...iirc 4 or 6 other animal nearby - they should breed.

i use this setup (no mod version): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2642211838
as you can see by the number of boars below...it's working fine for me.
Thanks everyone for the tips! I have finnaly tamed them and i guess they will start breeding shorty.

Also great boar farm there :-)

thanks. unfortunately it's not that great. if i'd build it again i'll use a pit method instead.
cuz every time mobs come from the forests nearby...boars\wolves go nuts. and once the fence is broken they spread all over the place.

so it's better to build a breeder over a pit, so they couldn't escape.

yes it's working. but there is a thing. if the video you've watched is old, then you need to make a little change to the breeder: now boars\wolves\loxes need a platform to stand on. else they will not eat.

My 2-* Boar farm needs no 'platforms' for them to eat and breed...open dirt surrounded by the cheapo fencing is fine.

dirt counts as a platform animals can stand on too, duh.
what i meant: the animals shouldn't float in the air (in old versions of spawners you use 1x2m planc and put all your animals on it. (ideally you rise it ~8m above the ground)

I have noticed that taming and possibly breeding don't seem to progress if you are far away.

False. One one-star boar, a stack of food, a butcher's knife and twenty minutes was enough to turn our zero-star boar operation into a one-star. Given the resulting offspring I think the one-star piggies were something like 20% or 30% chance.

them can eat red mushrooms and raspberries , carrots if you already farm them
