Amphibious Landing Advice Needed
Hi, I have finally mostly gotten regeared after my first disastrous attempt to build up an island base off the coast of a swamp near a plains biome. I need a base somewhere along this swamp coast to prepare to fight Bonemass, but I'm finding it tricky to find an area that isn't swarming with enemies or won't soon be.
In the absence of battleship fire support, any tips for establishing a beachhead on a hostile swamp coast?

The swamp is an easy place to build a base that can not be attacked/destroyed in my opinion, the keyword is "treehouse".
The larger trees cannot destroyed, they are high enough that blobs cant jump up, and its easy to find clusters where you can build in between.
Just build some ladders around a tree until you are about 3 to 4 walls high and place floors with a few angle´d girders to support areas further away of the trees, that way the only things that could be attacked are the ladders.
It is also possible to build a fireplace up there if you have iron for stonecutter already, a stone slab close to a tree with enough support from the tree.
The only thing you have to carefull of are ruins, they can spawn a wraith in the night and those jolly things would just fly up to the base to haunt you :D so build as far away of those as you can or you can also build inside them to block the spawn.
I build a treehouse close to a bonemass spawn and a second swampbase in an old stonetower right next to a plainregion with a yagluth spawn, both work just fine.

Grab a shield, mace, bow, poison resist potions and some health potions. Take your best food obviously. Find a nice peninsula that wouldn't take much to block off - get the boat near enough to jump to the shore. Bring along a few stacks of wood and the supplies for a portal.
Jump ashore, kill everything with the mace and shield, shoot any leeches going for the boat. If there's draugr archers, I'd recommend 'corner pulling' them; Hide behind a tree so they come close, jump out and whap'em with the mace. If you're not confident with avoiding or parrying their attacks they can hit pretty hard.
Once you feel safe enough to pull out your hammer, throw down some work benches to cover a fair bit of area and then block off the peninsula with spiked walls and a gate. Then start getting the place fortified and throw down your portal. Blobs can jump spiked walls, but you can raise the ground a couple of notches along your wall line to make it impossible for them to jump over, but to be honest you should have poison resist on as soon as you go to the swamp and a single blob won't be causing much of a bother once you've got walls up.
Also, a hoe is really useful in the swamp - you can make paths to walk on by levelling the ground so leeches can't hit you in the water.

This was the original idea behind building on a sandbar, but it was too close to the plains. The rest of the swamp coast is a straight line, with an other plains biome on the other side. So, no handy peninsulas unfortunately. Grab a shield, mace, bow, poison resist potions and some health potions. Take your best food obviously. Find a nice peninsula that wouldn't take much to block off - get the boat near enough to jump to the shore. Bring along a few stacks of wood and the supplies for a portal.

If you cannot defeat the swamp enemy easily bonemass is way out of your league, find another swamp to gear up. Once the swamp enemy are trivial to you, then build your outpost.
I guess it probably comes down to this, mostly. Need to fully finish regearing first.

Say what? Bosses have multiple spawn points? Search for an other bonemass spawn that is less dangerous

Generally, we don't set up shop in swamps. Too close to sea level, too hard to see anything, and too little space to work with due to all the indestructable trees.
For short term, we just park the boat close to the shore, then neutralize all hostiles. Return by nightfall and leave after that. Little to no risk of the boat being attacked this way.
For long term we set up a base just outside of the swamp, usually in a nearby meadow or black forest. Again, just better land to work with there.

Yes they have many, but the stones only mark the one that is the nearest to it.
You can use this
https://valheim-map.world/
to look where they are, and many other things but it could ruin the fun in exploring the map so use it with caution ;).

Create a small dock you can easily access with your ship, and then make sure to wall it in with a single small entrance so you can fight without being surrounded if you get attacked. Plus use the hoe to get some proper ground (or just build flooring).

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Why not land and stick a portal down and have your base somewhere safe and just teleport in for the fight?
Maybe something that would make your life IMMENSELY easier, is to put it right on the forehead of the skull that spawns Bonemass. It would never get destroyed. Getting up is also easy if you stick to stone instead of wood (to make it unlikely to get trashed in a fight).
With that approach, you can just ram your boat in anywhere where it seems half deep enough and be done with it.

I agree. Gather up the materials for a workbench, a portal and maybe a chest if you plan on mining any iron, then beach your ship on the coast of the swamp, kill whatever's nearby, build your portal and you're done. Chop your ship up and take it back home with you.

Just build a portal to your main base or home, prepare everything there and once you ready you can just go to Swamp using portal. It's a much easier than building a new temp base just for one boss. to build an outpost (a portal, a bench, a chest, maybe a fire, not much here) just raise walls with the hoe and throw up a pole to glue a roof on it all. you can RUN up hoe-walls so you don't need an entrance or exit.

Build in the trees or build a dock out on the ocean. Itll give you an easy point to land at, and defend from. And whatever you do, make a bed and sleep in it. Wraiths suck.
