Incredibly boring
I'm not getting why people find this such a killer title, what am I missing? I've tried building a house - a small one was OK, large one gave me incredible pain when random panels just falling down because it was too large. Fine, can handle that. Attacked the Stag monster, was OK in terms of a battle. Very boring after that. Where's the great enjoyment from all these glowing reviews come?

Yeah possibly, I normally enjoy those types of games. The house falling down issue annoyed me I guess, and not really getting into the grind yet. Will give it more time.

Out of, what is it, 7-8 million copies sold, theres bound to be a good chunk of people who decide the game isn't their cup of tea, and won't see the enjoyment in the game that others have... It's really all subjective on whether someone enjoys it or doesnt enjoy it... From your description, it seems like you didn't get very far into the game before making your decision, and it's fine if you think it's boring.... Other players have put in probably thousands of hours and find it quite fun. I, myself have over 500 hours between 2 accounts and while i don't think it's the "best game ever", it certainly isn't bad, especially if you actually play it through all the content currently available, before discarding it as "boring".

The structural integrity system does take some time getting used to, and even after you do it can still be somewhat annoying at times. Yeah possibly, I normally enjoy those types of games. Giving it more time sounds like a wise move. Perhaps you will discover the enjoyment so many others have.

Jokes aside.
The is likely not for you, if you dont like building and exploring, there is also the farming aspects like normal farming or grinding wood and stuff.
People enjoy different things, and all the people who liked this liked exploring and fighting and grinding, or just been a cog in there group, 1 hunter, 1 gather, 1 explore, 1 builder.
Its best played with friends, and there is a ton of mods, but if you dont like PvE games with semi survival then this is not for you.

I actually felt the same way after making my first house, fighting the first boss, what's the point, it's a massive grind? 734 game-play hours later i have a castle and fully upgraded gear. The game becomes very addictive once you get past the early grind.

There are several aspects in this game, and there are several way to play it. Perhaps you enjoy the action part in this game when you find out where to be and how to trigger it (e.g. by imposing challenges on you). As for me, action only spices up the rest, and I'd rather consider Valheim as an excellent time killer game: you play how you want for the duration you want, all your progress and doings are saved, and the number of activities is pretty high, even early in game. You can call this repeatitive, or boring, or grindy. I call it a very nice time killer. My position would be totally different if graphics were not so good, because I'm a contemplative person, and can just appreciate moving in a pretty frame.
For example, you can reconnect and decide to prepare for exploring a new area (without expecting anything new, but more resource to collect, and some thrill in the underground), or you can just roam "your" domain to collect whatever resources come at hands, and tease mobs (if you spared some spawners), or building a new and barely useful watchtower or a farm, or just decide to dedicate this gaming session to some exclusive activity (e.g. you need bronze to built a second ship to anchor near the starting location, and you want it NOW)...
Yeah I probably need to give it more time, its been a bit limited so far. Just feels kinda empty so far, and multiplayer is no doubt a far better experience. I understand there's different biomes etc and you need to explore.

If you are the instant gratification type, which it seems your are, then this gave won't do it for you.
The house thing is stability. This game actually utilizes building things using actual stability to do so. Hence, you need core wood (Black Forest tall pines), or iron beams ( iron from crypts in the swamp plus wood and a forge) to build stronger and taller structures.

have you noticed the colors of building parts changing colors, if you pay attension to it you can build huge houses. you cant just add pieces to structure that is already stressed/red.
also sounds like youve not even explored or been off the first island, i was only hooked after i did the first boss and the new materials opened up a load of different stuff.
also look at the wiki to help you. its stop from getting stuck, i missed unlocking core wood and had no idea what i was missing out on to progress

This also pissed me off when I first started playing - pissed me off so much I muted myself and roared in frustration as my ceilings repeatedly crumbled lol. The soundness of any structure you make is contingent on your ability to create a solid foundation and supports. As you progress, you gain access to more stable building materials that will allow you to build taller structures.
Building in Valheim is meant to be very different from The Forest or 7 Days to Die or something. You can make very impressive structures, but it takes patience and planning. My group is about 2/3 through the current progression, and we've barely scratched the surface on building.
If the building mechanics are too tedious for you, or the exploration bores you, then I agree with others - this game is a sunk cost and you may as well quit before you lose any more time to it.

In all honesty, I don't think I would play this game solo either. I know many folks do, but the collaborative aspect is one of the things I like best about it. I would be bored solo. When I used to play most solo games, I like a clear plot, interesting combat mechanics, and unique NPCs - think Witcher III, RDR2, AC4. Valheim is an excellent open world, but does not really feature any of those by design.

There are hints. With hammer in hand, if you mouseover building parts, the parts will turn colors. Green means well supported; red means close to collapse. Blue means supported by the ground. Structural integrity naturally degrades as pieces get higher off the ground. This limits how high you can build things.

Mostly just lack of communication and leaving everyone in the dark. And saying SOON about something but then not following through or updating us on the situation with a small paragraph length post at most is discouraging. SOON to the average person is like 10-20 days at most.
Like Spiderman Remastered for example, its coming out in 10 days. That is "soon". 4-6 months for just a word from our sponsor is not soon. Please acknowledge these time frames. It would help ALOT. I dont care if the game takes 10 more years to make. But like every week or two toss some kind of bone our way that everyone is alive and well and the project is going swimmingly. Thanks.

Make metals go through portals an option on settings or something (or at least make boats faster because 1hr boat rides are not fun)
Make battleaxes/tower shields not useless
Raids sending more than 5 dudes at you would be nice

Too much grind, not enough reward.
Honestly here's a breakdown of time spent in valheim:
%30 travelling paths you know
%30 hitting rocks, metals, trees, greylings
%10 building
%10 combat where you could win or loose
%5 exploration.
%5 searching for something you know exists, but dont know what it is, where it would be, or that you need to kill a boss first.
If this game wasn't locked behind hours of grinding for resources, it would take a few hours to see everything it has to offer.

Really enjoying the game so far, but my biggest gripe is FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET ME TAKE METAL THROUGH PORTALS AND/OR MAKE IT AN OPTION IN THE MENU... Its just so odd and super inconvenient to allow items and valuables through, but not metals.
Currently the closest swamp I have found thus far is at least a half an hour+ via boat to my base, and at this point it is more convenient to move my entire base closer to the swamp than it is to ferry the scrap iron back (and lucky for me I do not have a large stockpile of metals atm), which is another issue because the time it takes to get back is completely dependent on the wind direction.
Gripe 2; Smiting takes foreeeever! Between hustling materials back to the forge, constantly loading each individual ore and coal into the furnaces, as well as making sure you have a constant supply of coal from your kiln, it is a very bloated process.
You need at least 3 forges and kilns to make the process somewhat bearable, which on their own take up a ton of room, not sure why a forge can't just hold a full stack of ore, they're massive so i'd think they'd have enough room inside, same goes for the kiln.
Gripe 3; Building/landscaping using stamina is also rather annoying to deal with.
That's what I can come up with thus far.

just some things I hope to see in the future
-ability to adjust diameter of the hoe effect for stone path and leveling
-in game method to eliminate raids (reward? optional?)
-dedicated inventory slots for armor
-way, WAY more trade. gold is virtually useless
-real incentives (beyond resources) for exploring far from home
-Flat roof options
-special portal type that can portal metals. I always felt that the "Yagluth thing" would be good for this. Like, you'd only be able to make one or two pair.
my only real gripe is that in most games of this type, the further on you get, the easier and more streamlined certain processes become (Smelting, mining, farming etc). this is unfortunately not the case in Valheim. i'm not trying to speed through the game, I just don't wanna spend hours grinding stone just to build a house.

Here is my neutral opinion about the whole game, As somebody who played the game to progress and find adventure, the game was quite rough. The exploration and progression is built in a way to waste time. When you play the game with no guide and "explore" it is a very awkward experience. So I am a unguided newb I am in the meadows you find a forest pretty quick you realize it is stronger but not too bad. Once you get to the forest the "Open world." Closes down. It's like a MMO map, certain areas you are suppose to be in and others you are not then once you open the guide you realize the game is quite flat and linear. Suddenly you realize it's gimmicks everywhere. You realize you go from zone to zone and kill the bosses to progress. I liked going to new areas and fighting new monsters on new terrain types but the process is very slow.
The progression is very linear and you have all this other junk slowing you down, High crafting costs on every equipment for no reason, slow ore transport with massive bottlenecks for no reason. It's like the game wants to not let you progress by boring you. The game feels like a 5-15 hour adventure bloated to a much longer adventure.
Also bosses are quite lame, very gimmicky at times and boring to beat, I was ready to beat Moder watched a video so I wouldn't get killed by whatever gimmick the boss had, but the fight just looked so lame I just never fought Moder. Going through new areas was fun I admit but it was such a rare and slow process. Fighting the enemies across the lands was much more fun than the bosses for me.
But you see, I didn't play the game right. I watched a few streams of people playing the game on twitch, they don't play anywhere near how I play. They are building a nice looking house they are happy chopping trees and mining away sailing around ect. For me it's like why do I need to mine more build more travel through the same areas more? One of the last things I did was relocate my base near a plains and mountain so mining wouldn't be as bad but it's still slower than heck. I just enjoyed the adventure aspect of the game, I didn't care for all the transport building/mining, a simple mode that reduces crafting costs would of done the trick, or teleport ore. Whats so fun about walking/sailing and the cart is so annoying to use it is not even a pleasant walk. The silver was such a annoyance to get down even though I spent even more time on the base relocation.
Valheim is the one game I hate crafting equipment in because it takes too long and the exploration is very locked up by how well geared you are and even if you can survive in an area they boss locked everything good. I killed a fuling with only beating the first boss and the fight was 1 parry for me to win the fight I only killed one because whats the point when he doesn't drop anything you can use until you grind tons of other things and beat the bosses.
I would say the game just wasn't what I was looking for. I still had fun but I am glad I stopped when I did, there really isn't much after Moder anyways, at least for now. I will say it was quite good for beta/early access, the game might clean up quite well.

Love the game. The developers did a great job. And the updates get here when they get here.

Vent? I'll start in a mellow WTH(eck) way.
Just back from about 6-7 months away. Can't open devcommands. Not much new info on the subject. Is it no longer? I thoroughly enjoy the adventuring and collecting and crafting and though I have no architectural imagination, even the building. But I hate the constant need to fight off everything with every step. So I like to move around as a ghost. And spare me the, 'no true Viking would use cheats' crap. I don't care. So... What about those devcommands. I've tried '-console' in properties. Doesn't work. Anyone?
And no more (supported) mods? How are all those fine people who put in all that time and effort to create those mods feeling about that. I thought the devs and the modders were tight? Guess not. And could my one modded save be the reason the game has crashed 3 times today? Should I delete it? I am running on my laptop for now. Desktop died last week, but parts are on the way.
Anyway... Got the ball rolling. Next...

Hmm as far as I'm aware devcommands still work.
For launch options I use the following:
-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen -console
After joining my world (local world, not a dedicated server) I open the console with F5 and type in devcommands followed by debugmode. It's been a while, but as far as I remember Z-key allows you to fly and B allows you to build/craft freely.

Thank you MODS for doing this! I start by saying how I hate how slow the game's development and how low "quality" (IMHO) the communication of IGS has been so far...on this regard i have a couple of points that i would love to say and suggest: So the slow pace of the development has been frustrating and we can't do nothing about it BUT, I feel like the devblogs could be a useful tool for the devs to be more engaging. I know that the whole thing of Valheim is discovery and showing too much would be spoiling, but IGS could still manage what content to show us and what not, and by engaging i mean that i would love to read more on the development of the game wether it be discussing potential features (i don't mean PROMISING but DISCUSSING), maybe also talking about the features suggested by the community if some could be easily implemented or if they respect the vision for the game; i would love to read about technical stuff , it would be interesting reading about maybe struggles and opportunities on working on the current engine or implementing new mechanics; even talking about the little "lore" we have in game, something funny and engaging would also be giving us more info (i don't know flavour text that would be more immersive in the game's world and not stupid teasers of new furnitures) on the things that we'll be discovering ingame when updates get release... I don't know, maybe the things i would love to see in the development of the game do not apply to games like valheim... and maybe the devs just don't have anything to tell ... whetever the case even if what i say sounds stupid i'm relieved that i said it.

Although appreciated, let's face it,
it'll be somewhat pointless. Too many that don't bother reading and will quick post in the wrong places anyway.
Case in point: Two posts above mine.

Thanks.

Not too many complaints here. I don't really care how long it takes to leave EA. I would much rather have a polished finished product that takes awhile to get right than a rushed bug ridden mess.
Monthly updates, even if it is only a sentence or 2 would be a nice touch.
Troll events do stink. I have way more troll hides and coins than I will ever use. Making stone walls impervious to troll attacks would be a nice touch. I can parry block and stun them with a teeny tiny Iron buckler. Stone walls really should last way longer than the event lasts. Having to waste time rebuilding isn't fun (which is what I play games for, to relax and have fun) and building a berm and a moat is pure cheese but its the only way to protect your base at the moment.
Speaking of coins, more items that you can buy from Haldor would be nice. A backpack that uses up some of your weight limit but adds more inventory slots without adding to how much weight you can carry would be good as would a mead belt or even just a single square "bota".
Deathsquitos need to have a louder warning sound particularly for those of us that are visually impaired.

I just find it absurdly pathetic that the Steam hub mods are actively deleting and locking threads questioning the development progress of the game or the moderation of the fourm itself, then they make a megathread for "ranting".
Can't wait for this reply to be torched and another warning from some weirdo riding a power trip from being able to delete a thread on Steam.

The food and drink system is a terrible design and is the #1 reason why I can't stand to play the game anymore. HP and Stamina should not be constantly fluctuating values and I imagine it would be easier to design enemy and boss encounters if they weren't.
A food and drink system that provides temporary buffs could work if the player had an actual stat sheet like most rpgs.

You mods constantly delete and merge threads with people asking where the updates are, and now you *want* to hear people complain?
Youve got to be joking and I honestly dont believe youre being entirely honest about the intent of this thread.
I suggest to posters that if you want to rant where people will really hear it, make a review, where mods here will be unable to mess with it. That is where youll hear unfiltered opinions, for better or worse.
