I can press E on the cooking station and it does nothing except tell me that I am getting to hot and if I press 8 (which is the slot the meat is on) and put it onto the fire it says"the boar meat on what?" and nothing of the meat goes automatically on the fire - and thanks but I think I'll give up.
Yes I have played plenty of these games before like 7 days for 2000+ hours all the Dark Soul games with playstation, Diablo all of it for years, etc etc I have played gaming for 30 years so this is a new experience this game, maybe start to learn Danish or something.

Maybe there's a translation problem with your hints and tips. You need to build a cooking station ontop of the fire. And then put the meat on the cooking station, make sense?

Once you realise there are different stances, you'll be fine and everything will start to click (literally).
Stances include: Holding nothing, steering a boat, holding a tool, or holding a weapon (and/or shield/torch combination).

For instance, when your hammer is out, you are exclusively in build mode. You cannot interact with doors or chests, nor can you place food on the cooking station or even sneak in this mode without sheathing the tool first, (or swapping it out for a weapon).
Note: I've found that the "Hide/Show Weapon" key used for sheathing/unsheathing your last tool or weapon combo is just as important as "Use" and "Inventory" keys in this game more than others as it's not just for show. (It also comes in very handy after you've been swimming in deep water where anything you were wielding is automatically sheathed).

The system is similar to the Dragon Quest Builders games which started life as a Playstation 4 title. You needed to be wearing a special pair of gloves to pick up or drop items, or a hammer to build and destroy etc..

Have you ever played a survival/crafting game? You need a cooking station to cook meat. It's extremely easy to make and available from the beginning of the game. It's under the hammer's "crafting" menu.

When you cook meat, you don't need to put it in 1-8. If you just press E on the cooking station it will load uncooked meat onto it for you. If you want to keep some meat raw but cook other types of meat, that's when you would put it in a slot (or store it in a chest and only keep the raw stuff).

Put your weapon in a 1-8 slot and hit the corresponding number to pull it out. If you have a hammer in slot 7 that you're holding and a bow in slot 1, all you have to do to switch is press 1. Put away whatever you're holding and store it on your back with R. Pressing R again will take it back out. This makes it easy to keep a shield AND weapon ready with one button press.

I hope that's somewhat helpful, I really can't tell what you're having trouble with other than the cooking. Switching weapons/tools is literally one button press. The 1-8 thing in terms of things like cooking or loading wood is only if you want to cook or burn something specific, otherwise just pressing E on the target will fill it with whatever you have. For example, you don't wanna burn Fine Wood, so if you have Fine Wood and regular Wood in your inventory you can put the regular wood in slot 1-8 and hit the number instead of E to avoid it auto-loading your Fine Wood (it will auto load the regular wood first and only use the fine wood if you run out, but it's easy to accidentally spam E so much that you end up burning it after).
