Must have mods?

What are the mods you think I should get on my server and make my friends download to play with?

valheim + is the only one iv used. i refuse to play the game vanilla having used +
it lets you cut out a bunch of time wasting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and adds quality of life that really should be in the game to begin with

i think there was an armour slot mod somewhere? that would be nice. again another feature the game desperately needs but the stubborn devs think people like being frustrated to no end

i played 800 hrs without mods...than realized why not!
now im using thunderstore mod manager and mods are :
BepinExPack_Valheim
EquipmentAndQuickSlots
MassFarming
AzuClock
NoFogBruh (because of ground fog and you can choose what to turn off)

for me much better experience with mods. it was also good without mods but some things make me crazy...
have fun playing valheim, i´m on 900 hrs :D

There are 3 mods I would find it hard to play without.

Customizable Camera so I can zoom out a bit further so the longboat sail doesn't block all my view.

Real Clock with the fuzzy time.

Trash Items so I can actually throw things away.

The mods I use are mostly QOL but the clock does maybe make things a bit easier.

if you never played before there is no must have mods at all. game is extremely well done in vanilla.

i would advise on a no mods run first and then start over and play with as many mods as wanted for a fresh start.

Yeah, a first run is best done with zero mods, with any game (unless it is literally unplayable, which is not the case with Valheim).

Love that OP asks for mods and people tell him don’t use them, very helpful.
Anyway on Nexus there are a couple mods that change portal use. One lets you use it carrying ore. That’s a must have for me. Another has a drop down menu for where you want to go vs having portals pared up.
Nexus has a ranking system for its mods. Rank by most downloads and that will give you a pretty good idea of what folks are liking.

OP did ask for 'must have mods'. People told him - there's no 'must' need for mods. Vanilla is fine for first go. It's a very reasonable answer for the question posed by the OP.

If phrased a bit differently by the OP, I believe the answers probably would have been different too. I agree - there aren't any 'must have mods'. If OP wants suggestions for good mods, best mods, etc regardless of previous experience of the game - then I'd not be able to help as much.

you dont install mods for a game you NEVER played before. thats just you basically not actually wanting to play the game you bought in the first place. so telling the tc to not use mods right away is actually beeing helpful. if a game needs mods to be good said game isnt good at its base to begin with. which simply isnt the case with valheim.

Splitting hairs, the OP was clearly interested in mods.

Valheim + is all my friends and I used so far and it has basically changed the entire game for us and made it a lot more fun.

Others I might try are plant everything.

Thanks for the different answers and opinions, and the hint for the Nexus page.
I'm really only interested in mods that don't change the core of the game. I don't want to make it easier or faster to play.
I have found 1-2 mods so far that I had imagined or hoped would exist.
As an example a pull of crates mod. Another shows the time. another allows it to grow berries, vegetables, etc..

After exactly what I was looking for!

No mods until you have cleared first boss, then:
Valheim Plus
Craft from Containers
ShowContainerContents
PlantEverything
TerrainReset
ShipSpeed

For Fun:
HereFishy
Krumpac
Jotun / Valheim Legends
ChickenBoo

...why no mods until first boss? Because you will have no idea what is being changed, plus you will have little comparision for the difficulty up/down you'll be implementing specifically through the manually set options of Valheim Plus (V+).

You can edit XP gain and loss rates, DPS, food retention and effect, range of crafting and a number of other seemingly minor aspects in V+ that will be meaningless to you until you've done a good few hours, and had to fight the first Boss as intended.

Having said that, bare in mind making the game too easy will really spoil the experience, so be careful of your editing on armour and dps changes (if any).

Here's a recent thread full of mods suggestions; some really good ones in there.

[EDIT] Just do not use Valheim Plus. I really recommend against it. It's bloated garbage that breaks every update, and for almost all functions it has there are smaller mods that do the same.

FloatingItems by castix, items float insted of sick.

FarmGrid, makes planeting less tiresome.

MassFarming by k942, makes things easier to pick up, just hold shift when doing so.

EquipmentAndQuickSlots by RandyKnapp, armor slots outside of the inventory, same goes for a Quick hotbar outside of the inventory.

Mabye "PlantEverything by Advize" It allows you to plant anything you fancy, berry bushs or small trees.

Sated by Crystal, Health and stamina gained from food stays with you for more of the food's duration.

Thats all i have for you, anything else i consider well for fun or too easy to others.
Like mineshaft, Judes_Equipment, Sages_Vault, Better_Trader_Remake, GatheringSkill by pipakin, PlantGrowProgress by Smallo, FermenterUtilities by Smallo, BeehiveUtilities by Smallo, CreatureLevelAndLootControl by Smoothbrain.

I almost always playes with EpicLoot by RandyKnapp, i sooner die then play with jewelcrafting, but you do you.

Well?? Gimme the mods you think of then
Easy done (also think very well at @Nefrarya words, as they're correct: you have to be prepared to manage your mods, in the server, and/or to run without for some times when they break):
Mandatory Mods
  1. BepInExPack_Valheim by denikson: support library/mods management
  2. AzuAntiCheat by Azumatt: checks which mods are installed client-side and kicks the player if unlawful ones have been
  3. ServerCharacters by Smoothbrain: stores characters profiles server-side and kicks a player if his character didn't play in that server only (useful to avoid "rogue imports" and "skill pumps")
  4. ExtendedItemDataFramework by RandyKnapp: support lib

QoL/utilities: optional
  1. Better_Trader_Remake by OdinPlus
  2. WardIsLove by Azumatt: better wards, configurable, and the configuration can be tied to server-side one, to avoid players "over-power" their wards
  3. Auga by RandyKnapp: nice and clean interface
  4. BackPacks_Remake by OdinPlus: wider inventory, at a cost
  5. FenceSnap by MSmoecher: easier to place fences (just an experiment we added)
  6. QuickConnect by bdew: helps players with server's connect
  7. KGchat by KGvalheim: chat replacement

All automatically managed with r2modman, so no problems with install/remove/enable/disable mods.

Mandatory mods helps preventing cheating, while optional ones are just QoL and don't changes the game's dangers at all.
Azumatt himself told no protection is unbreakable, and I can believe him, but I'm glad the average player have to "play fair" in our server... over-the-average cheaters will hit admin's mjolnir to the wrong side. ;-)

No, for many games there are a common set of mods that are very popular that most people seem to enjoy.

I play without mods too

Mass farming lets you plant crops in large batches. Also lets you harvest all items of the same type within a set radius (ex. if you hold shift while picking up a rock, all rocks within a few metres will pop up as well).

Roundstonescrollfirstperson lets you scroll your camera one more tick to go into first-person mode. Good for placing tricky build pieces or navigating tight spaces with lots of camera clipping.

These are the two mods I'll never play the game again without.

I've been using Valheim Plus to tweak some settings to cut out a little tedium as a solo player, like adjust the map reveal radius, make the hoe use less stamina and not break, increase the build distance, get 3 carrots instead of just 1, increase the coal amount in the smelter, etc. You can tweak almost everything to be easier or more difficult to suit your tastes.

All of these are based on not running back and forth 100 times to do something.

Smart Containers: When you Ctrl-Click a stack into a chest, it will reroute to another chest that already has that item or an item it's grouped with. You can configure the groups if you like but I've never bothered with that.

Show Container Contents: Hover the mouse over a chest to see a list of what's in it.

Auto Fuel: Keep fires, torches, smelters, and kilns full, if what they need is in a nearby chest. "Nearby" can be configured, I keep it short.

Craft From Containers: If what you need for crafting is in a nearby chest, use that. It will use what's in your inventory first.

Hey there,

please remember that as of now modding is not officially supported. It's done at your own risk, there are no guarantees for future compatibility. Please keep backups of your save files before you start modding. If you need technical support, please always include a full list of active AND prior mods, since that can influence the game's behaviour with regard to bugs.

Have a good day!
