Why do ALL late game recipes use iron?

Plains tier armor doesn't even use blackmetal?

Why send the player back two biomes to old dungeons (for main equipment items) instead of focusing on new areas? I'm just referencing the plains game play at the moment, which I'm starting to realize feels pretty empty without its own dungeons, only one set of armor, etc. But, even Mistlands uses a ton of iron. You get a whole new smelter--that doesnt even smelt other items--and you only use it for a few tools? Hopefully the last two late-game areas won't ALSO depend on iron. I really don't care to spend the rest of my in-game time digging out the swamps..

I didn't know this, that's actually really useful information. Thank you. :)

The best use for blackmetal is blackmetal chests, though. The storage capacity and aesthetic value of them is great.

That said, iron is incredibly valuable in this game. I consider gold and gems to be trash next to iron. That's mostly because of how useful it is in construction, though.

BM is now used vanishing as ballista ammo at an alarming rate. I got no other use for it, and every night at least 3 if not 6+ pieces come knocking on my door, but still, I shoot up a good 10 /day or more when at home.

because iron is sadly the most overused metal currently. atleast devs have slowly gotten that memo. alot of the new structures now use copper. not bronze. copper. which is much better.

iron is clearly overused by the devs. no more iron recipes in the future.

Pro tip....you don't need Iron from swamps, you can get it in other places....including Mistlands. No need to travel backward. I just used 600 iron in wooden beams for my Dark Marble Mage Tower, never left the Mistlands.

The Plains smelter uses the Ashland ore. I didn't find the iron requirement to be bad, a friend and I knocked out two crypts which took no time and then we smelted it.
Plains mixes things up a bit and uses Black Iron for weapons and Flax for armor, if anything, Plains gear is obtained and upgraded the quickest and with the least amount of hassle compared to the other biomes.
I actually never end up upgrading any of my gear until I reach the plains because the equipment for that biome is so cheap.
