I skipped bronze armor. Not worth the hassle as long as numbers are so small. I'm buffled how people can say that bronze is faster than troll armor unless you have smelters everywhere without much travel time.

After Second boss kill. I went Root Helm, Root Chest, and Troll Legs all max level, then went to mountains. Kill wolves, mine silver without wishbone using the Deer Sledgehammer to find the silver, then work to get Wolf Cape from dead wolfie's/silver (cold resist, No more Frost Resist Pots needed). Then make Drake Helm and Wulf Leggings. Max all those armor out. Max out Draugur bow and Silver Shield maxed out and silver sword level one. Now gotta kill Mountain boss... I love that you can mix and match the armors in this world to suit your play style. Sometimes, depending on circumstance, keep the armor with you and just take it off so you can run faster if needed. I'm still wearing that maxed out Root Chest.

Stopped using it after making Padded Armour, but recently took it out of mothballs. For exploring new areas, and or gathering resources, it cannot be beat. I often carry a second cape when using it, after 6 pm things get a little cold around Valheim, and I prefer not to lose my stamina regeneration.

Honestly I feel like not being able to run away from things would be a far greater problem than 8 AC would be worth. It seems like the Swamps love to spawn things that you just don't want to fight in melee range (Draugr elites, Draugrs with stars, big packs of Draugrs, Abominations, Wraiths, etc.) and not being able to get away from them would result in a swift death and the extra 8 AC isn't going to save you.

First main play-though with friends we'd always use the troll armor for sailing expeditions, we were afraid we'd lose our primary gear if the boat sank.

Now I like to use it for the bonus to sneak.

Nice that it goes to level 4 now.

a very viable upgrade to the troll armor, atleast for me, was the root armor mostly for the resist it offers. Iron armor can be good to if you can deal with the movement penalties.
All that comes from adventuring in the swamps :)

Honestly, 1st game, used it for day to day and general use, only put high tier armour on when tracking into areas I intended to do heavy fights.

Sprint across the plains? nah, use troll

farming wolves / draugr guts? yeh. tank up bruh

Now? As soon as roots are available thats my JAM. I am G-root

Stopped wearing it at about where you are. The new root armor is sweet for the swamp and you should get it there, too.

I completely skipped bronze armour. Started using iron armour only after I could make a fully upgraded set, so used troll armour for a good while in the swamps.

What he said, much easier to farm copper and tin than kill trolls at that level.

I used troll armor through the swamp, switched to fully upgraded iron before fighting Bonemass, and quickly replaced that with Wolf armor. I found kiting trolls and sneaking in caves and stabbing them in the back much less tedious than hauling copper and tin. I only used bronze for weapons and tools to get me to iron.

I generally skip both bronze and iron armor. I prefer troll armor because it does not slow a viking down as much as bronze, iron, or heavier armor. With a buckler or round shield, it works fine for the Meadows, Black Forest, and Swamp biomes.

I would probably use it all the way through the Mountain if wolf armor did not have cold resistance. I haven't started a new game since Hearth and Home so I haven't tried to use root armor in the Swam; for poison resistance.

Two things to keep in mind. First, I do not like to stand and slug it out with powerful beasties. Stick and move is more my style. Second, I do use wolf and padded armor for extended stays in the Mountains and the Plains. Beasties and the environment there can severly restrict the move component of stick and move. Occasionally, I will get myself into making a corpse run to a dicey spot in the Swamp. I will make bronze or iron armor if I can't make heavier armor for those occasions.

If a viking prefers the "tank" strategy, bronze and iron armor will be crafted and used as soon as possible.

"Tank" is in quotation marks because, in real life, tanks use the stick and move style. At least the ones with crews interested in survival do.
