Not too serious about realism of course, but for the sake of this lighthearted conversation, while within the loose confines of the lore of the game, I would surmise vikings didn't have the resources nor the cultural mindset to use such a weapon. I'm assuming Valheim is loosely based on the vikings of the 9th to 11th centuries, which the crossbow wasn't a common weapon in Europe at the time.

Of course ultimately, IronGate is god and if they say My Little Pony UFOs will be a part of the game, then it is written in the ancient stone tablets that it must be so. ♥

eehh, as long as ak47 don't get implemented, I don't really care lol.

I like to think that my viking can come up with some clever 'new' weapon ideas to channel all that wrath from getting smacked in the face repeatedly.

Historically speaking, vikings were aware and have had many encounters with crossbows, they never really adopted its design because a crossbows reload took too long whereas a bow was as simple as grab string draw and release. Speed and ambush were the most important tactics with viking culture.

Maybe some Asian mythology has found its way into the Tenth World? China had crossbows way earlier than other cultures, since around 650BC.

Well in keeping with game lore, although you were a great warrior when you arrive you've forgotten everything from your past life.. as you discover things knowledge re/appears in you mind. Technically it doesn't have to be "your" forgotten knowledge. Odin is kinda directly messing with you, and can be giving you access to any knowledge he wants.. ;)

While your point is pretty solid, I do agree with retsam. It does kind- of break immersion a little.. but yeah, only a little.

I think you mistaken me for Nefrarya's comments. I was just pointed out that for a couple of weeks now they've debuted at least 3 different new things related to mistlands. :P

I'm slightly disappointed with the crossbow. I think Pipo (or was is Mharr or Paka?) was giving me a history lesson some weeks ago about why crossbows would be strange during the era of the vikings due to culture of their time. It's like seeing hostile Inuits of the 16th century wielding muskets. It's possible, but super unlikely.
