Fingers crossed that comes. Black Desert Online does it really well. As does the 2 Subnautica games.

I haven't seen official word about it, but...

water is literally tranparent and the bottom of ocean is empty
I assume that devs don't plan to add diving/stuff at all

If they did plan such stuff... there would be at least something to handle water screen when you are underwater
Not to mention mobs are made in a way that either water pushes them up to surface or sinks them down to the bottom, without mods you can't get mobs to swim up/down to attack you, you are literally immune when inside of water (there is no oxygen either)

It is a Viking game, why would there be underwater exploration?

Why wouldn't there be? Ever heard of the hall of Aegir and Ran?

Didn't forget, and I think the term sea pirate is a bit redundant.
Pirates don't explore underwater and neither did vikings.
I had not heard of Aegir and Ran, looked it up. Wouldn't really fit into the story line. Since they were giants on good terms with the gods.

(I just wanted to differentiate from online pirates there, lol.) Vikings also didn't actually fight nature spirits and mythical creatures, but the game has plenty of that. I don't know if you play this game for perceived "realism", but I think it's fair to say the devs can take a few liberties here and there.

Vikings also didn't fight titans. But they were a seafaring people so their mythology naturally included references to the underwater realm, and since this is a game based on Norse myth, I don't see how having underwater content would be out of place.

And that's not even mentioning how the entire point of this game is that we're warriors sent to the tenth and forgotten realm, so anything goes, established OR new lore.

Because Vikings were well known mariners. Hence swimming, maybe things like sunken ships for loot and combat. Seems a no-brainer to me. To me, the more modes of exploration we have is a good thing, weather it has anything to do with Norse mythology or not. As I see it, this is not just a Viking action crafting RPG, it's major selling point is also as a sandbox game. Underwater exploration is an obvious avenue. Heck I'd like to see quests that take you to to sunken ships, and both Valhalla, and Helheim. No matter what the current intro states, I can't see our adventures so far being anywhere other than the earthly realm.

Maybe after Update 4: Mistlands they might add another biome. If you want underwater exploration, game play, add Grounded to your game library. The Grounded developers added a lot of underwater stuff in their last 2 updates.

Sorry. Made a few edits to that after you responded. Had a few more thoughts on the topic.

Grounded is in my game library. just not on Steam. However I still feel this is a good option to add more variety to Valheim. The more they add for us to do, the longer this game will remain relevant.

Let me put it this way. Once the game goes gold, thats when we will see the most advanced mods on places like the nexus. If the developers do not add it as a core feature, anything the modders do will be half baked.
