No I didn't refund, I haven't played a similar game to this and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not a great person to play co-op with, because I have a daughter that I may suddenly need to give my undivided attention to at any moments notice. I like finding a community where I can just pop in and out without ruining anyone else's time.

I'd be willing to start a fresh character on a new server if you haven't refunded.

I usually do the same, tonight can't be a late night though. One thing always leads to another. Did a run with a guy met on discord last night, was up to 5am.

*Edit: Lately i just take a character with a full set of iron or silver and Draugr, tools, and food. Limits possibility of dying, lot of time people want you to see their work, or vice versa.

The Valheim Discord has a channel where you can find players to play with, if that interest you.

I just looked at your profile and you look like a person of similar taste. shoot me an invite and you can visit my server. It is mostly just me and a close friend but I don't mind inviting dedicated players.

you can use mods to make public servers
it's really bad idea tho, public servers = you invite griefers/cheaters

The game is totally playable solo

The game is still fun / doable solo, but a bit harder. Definitely more fun in a group. My group kind of quit midway through, but I still managed to finish the game by myself in the end.

It is slightly geared towards groups, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it solo. Enemies get +40% health for each player in the world, so the devs did put at least something in place to balance the game for solo players. That being said; jump in/out server gameplay isn't as much a thing in this game because of the way progression works and how the game world gets more dangerous as various bosses are defeated. Because of that, multiplayer gameplay usually takes one of two forms for this game.

1. A group of players start the game together and progress together. This gets around the issue of the game world advancing past where people are at, but players have to be patient enough to wait for everyone to be on before continuing.
   
   
2. Mercenaries: Players keep their old gear around while progressing so that they can use the old gear in other people's worlds to help them out. Jump into other worlds using old gear to make sure you don't steamroll everything. When you're done helping out, maybe they give you a little somthin' for your time.

It's a PvE co-op game for the most part. Use the 'Looking for Group' sub-forum to find people to play with on a private server and you'll be fine.

Every server I've seen has only had 1 person in it and it was also password locked.

I don't have any gaming friends, so does that mean I'll be playing alone? & is that worth it?

I haven't spent 2 hours in the game yet, thinking about refunding rather than having a lonely experience that was geared towards groups originally.

If you were looking for proper co-op, refund it asap.

It’s a proper co-op. There just isn’t a matchmaking component

Have you tried posting in the Looking for Group sub-forum? If you make a thread you should be able to get a group that doesn't want to play solo either. It's best in this game to play with one set group anyway, so you can keep your progression in sync.

I read all of the replies here, and have a much better understanding of how this game operates and where to find people to play with. I should be able to figure it out now.
