On why the devs have left us able to zoom out on what looks like a world hub map....are we perhaps seeing some for-shadowing or perhaps the map was easiest this way? The image and design bring so much to mind, especially using Viking lore and mythos, there's so many realms so it would be pretty fun

Perhaps still connected in the game lore but not actually connected in game. You won't (currently) find a connection to the world tree or the rainbow bridge by sailing all the way around the Valheim world or exploring it's entire surface (or by using freefly and going up or down through the terrain).

It would be hanging from the firmament either way. One of the runestones states this:

"Look to the sky where mighty Yggdrasil reaches out, called by the Forsaken Ones to join itself once more with this wayward world. It is a glorious sight but a dreadful one. For as the great tree bends out across the void, its branches strain and crack, felt in the remaining nine worlds as quakings of the earth, great storms and holy fires. The Forsaken must be slain and balance restored."

So the tenth world has become reconnected with the world tree, if barely. Whether you choose to consider narrative in runestones reliable or not is each one's own choice, at this time...

Never seen or heard of a runestone anything like that.

For the Valkyrie, I believe the original Norse mythos depictions look more akin to Harpies, winged women warriors who used spears and rode upon horse, boar, or bear into battle using their wings as ways to help bring the dead to Odin's side to battle beside him thus the depictions widely go from beautiful women who ride on winged horse and a beautifuly fierce harpy woman, with a spear in hand. Both are terrifying imagery.

The bird which transports you to Valheim is either Munin or Hugin. Munin is known as Memory, whereas Hugin is Thought, so perhaps Odin simply remembered your spirit and called it to Valheim. And while you are right about the Valkyries choosing the slain, circumstances seem to indicate you hardly had a worthy death: you are a warrior, but you have yet to prove yourself worthy of Valhalla. So the Valkyries might not even be involved.

It's a valkyrie, and referenced[valheim.fandom.com] as such in the game. Both ravens are found in the game proper as well and look completely different.

They're also meant to have wings, which you hear the beating of when you approach your death.

Regardless of whether it looks or sounds like any particular historic imagining of valkyries, because it is literally transporting you from your death in Midgard, to Valheim as opposed to the traditional Valhalla I assume that is their (the devs) interpretation of a valkyrie.

I could be wrong.

But it is nothing like a Raven. Some sort of Hawk or Eagle maybe.

By selling the game? It has 20 to 50 million owners according to Steamspy.

But even if it hadn't sold obscene amounts, not all games need to sell DLC or microtransactions to make for a living.

Odin had severed Valheim from the world tree, so, it wouldn't be connected.
The may or may not part would be: Valheim may or may not have the capability to be reconnected to the world tree or does the "bifrost road thing" only have the ability to connect to places that the world tree is connected to.

I believe that's supposed to be a Valkyrie.

Doesn't look like any representation of a Valkyrie I've ever seen.

A Valkyrie is a figure in Norse mythology depicted as a warrior woman on horseback, a wolf or boar, and armed with a spear, who decides the fate of warriors in battle and carries the dead to Odin’s Valhalla. Valkyrie means "chooser of the slain", and those chosen will fight beside Odin at Ragnarök.

Depedning on what language they are taking it from Val in this context can mean either battlefield or fallen and Heim means home. Home of the fallen would make sense if its some kind of purgatory. It would also make sense that it would be severed from the world tree and the rainbow bridge.

This game has so much potential. The trick is how will Iron Gate sustain revenue on a single-purchase game? So I can see them finishing this EA, maybe leading towards a 2.0 version someday.. but I would hope for their sake that any DLC would have a price tag, and as you say, OP, that it would be a hub world! I would squee for svartalfheim. Hbu?

Honestly, I'd love to see their version of a hub-world, but perhaps a rainbow bridge as is mentioned in most mythos? I'd adore seeing that and Alfheim

There are nine realms in Norse Mythology, they are called Niflheim, Muspelheim, Asgard, Midgard, Jotunheim, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Svartalfheim, Helheim. The nine worlds in Norse mythology are held in the branches and roots of the world tree Yggdrasil. These realms are the home of different kinds of beings, such as Asgard the home of the Gods and Goddesses, or Jotumheim the home of the giants.

Valheim is a made up, topologically flat, realm that functions as Viking purgatory and may not be connected to the world tree or to the rainbow bridge (that may be why a huge raven flies you to Valheim) and the reason

that you die if you sail over the edge.
