From what I've seen on the forums the quality of your system doesn't matter much, the game is in EA, not optimized, and is known to have issues no matter how good your system is. I hope you find a solution because it's a good game and well worth the price. Try searching the forums for help, there are a lot of tech support posts. Thank-you so much for your quick response and info. I'll definitely check this out. You're right. From what I've seen, it is an amazing game, and worth looking into how to run it properly.

I tried that Vulkan, and same thing...CRASH! So that didn't work. I'll keep trying. You are very kind. Thank-you again for your help.

Vulkan is inherently unstable for the game right now, moreso for Nvidia cards. Some people (most notably those with ATI cards) see more stability/gains from it. Some people aren't able to run with Vulkan at all.

I chose not to use Vulkan due to instabilities. I'd rather have a solid game experience and not worry about it crashing at a critical moment (or during a save).

You could try the studio drivers from Nvidia if you wanted. Or you can try uninstalling the Nvidia driver you currently have, booting into Safe Mode and using DDU to do a "clean wipe" of driver residue, and then downloading/installing a fresh copy of the driver your card needs.

Playing on Vulkan with a GTX 1080 and latest drivers, no issues at all.
Added Valheim.exe to Nvidia 3D Settings and made sure Vsync was disabled there.

Running with DX12, I had FPS drop to 15 in main base, did a lot of terrain flattening.
instances are around 25300 there,
i didn't know that would be a culprit until i learned about it.
But now with Vulkan the FPS is between 50 and 75 in main base, i can live with that.

Anyhow, in other seeds i am keeping the instances as low as possible.
It's actually more beautiful when building a little farm on sloped terrain
within a big castle estate.

Game has never crashed so far... (knocks on Fine Wood for luck)

Playing with Vulkan too, but I'm also plying it on Linux with xanmod kernel.. Runs like a well oiled machine.

Yep, Vulkan seems to work for me but I'm on an AMD system and have an AMD graphics card. I'm sure it'll all work better once Valheim is out of EA. Vulkan's FPS and performance does vary from system to system. If it's working fine in the non-Vulkan mode then I wouldn't even bother with it, or worry about it.
