What is wrong with the negative reviews?

People are browning their pants over changes in an early access game. What the hell is wrong with you people?!

For me Hearth and Home was a minor update that disappointed. A long time coming and so little added. It raised the question of "How long to wait before progression content will be added?" And that is a "Put it on the back shelf and wait" category of games.

Ye seems like OP just wants to spread drama themselves ... about drama?
I dont know some people are desperate to find fault in others, even when almost everyone likes this game.

Considering the developers have almost no communication with the player base, provide no information about updates or comming content, and the roadmap is lackluster and provides no information what so ever.
I have been looking through the interwebs finding info about the development of this game, before i bought it and many times while playing it. And there is only some sales pictures and videos.

The Early access part of this game, is one of the worst i have seen in games, and i have been part of the development of many games.
If the game was not in a good state as is, and i did not trust a developer that i never had contact with. I might also not give it any praise.

However i like the game in its current state so far, so im positive about it. The early access development part is still terrrible though, i have no clue what is comming and when.

They’ve said previously that the next update is the mistlands, which should be pretty obvious what that means. Not every game dev is gonna give you weekly updates on the state of upcoming updates, hell, its only been a month since H&H, they probably haven’t even finished anything to show yet.

There was a case for this argument around summertime this year, but they’ve been pretty consistent since then about updates.

You haven't seen much then.

Conan Exiles is my go to for a bad EA.

That was a game that ran horribly and content that was said and advertised to be in the game than never was. Nor could it have been because of bad decisions made early in the development process. The game had massive flaws allowing regular cheating (to this day) flaws the resulted in dungeons being broken, player physics being broken, Combat being broken. Through out the game development the location spawns of different animals wildly changed. Difficulty changed. System and mechanics changed wildly. Bugs would be fixed only to reappear because the dev team was a revolving door and people would use old code.

This game has for 9 months been generally stable and playable.

This kind of game grabs me for a few 1 or 2 hundred hours at a time. I burn out and wait for a EA update and try again. Each time there is a EA update I get my initial moneys worth. This game has a high value for money ratio.

People give bad reviews because it is their way to show the devs what they think. It is the fastest way and one that isn't going to be instantly buried. Having a single thread of angry people that you can quickly dismiss isn't as helpful as EA reviews that show that people are upset. It is actually quantifiable.

I updated my review of Conan multiple times It moved from good to bad to good to bad.

It is a normal thing and it isn't something to get upset about and shout faux rage at.

And with every update what is actualy being added (like guns or a new gamemode). While still keeping some surprises here and there, and being open on things they are not sure will make it into the game.

Maybe I am used to higher developers standards in EA games. Or maybe the developers of this game could use a bit more effort to intergrate the playerbase in the development process. I know the name of the upcomming update, but no details.
I dont even know if the steam suggestions get read at all, and if its any use to post suggestions and put effort into those kind of things.
And thats quite an important part of EA development most of the time.

Everyone has different standards and experiences, so there is that.

Thats the danger of early access games.
Its a great way to get early money, and posible ideas from the players who will be playing it.
But if the developers do something bad, or lack in communication, this can backfire quite fast. Thats why communication in EA games is so important. Players will always have more patience and respect towards developers that tell them things even if those are things the playerbase wont like. Than developers who are quiet.

How many early access games have you seen? This is one of the worst? Really? The one thing Valheim has been repeatedly praised for is how good it is for an early access game. The vast majority of them are poorly implemented tech demos. I have played several of them.

I personally love that they do not share anything. I LOVE discovering stuff for myself that they have put in. I have not completed a play through of the new H&H update, and am pleasantly surprised by the changes they have made, and some of the new items. This update is exactly what I expected. I do hope they continue to update and add new crafting stuff as they go, and that this was not the end all be all for building and crafting. No one I play with has had anything negative to say about this new release.

One of the things I learned early in my Army career 1s that people are creatures of habit.
People develop routines for their daily lives. If there is a change in circumstances that requires a change in a routine, people will complain about it even if the change improves the overall circumstances.

What worries me is when people don't complain or stop complaining in short order. That usually means that the change is ineffective or that it is so overwhelming that people have checked out. So a change that no one complains about is a bad change.

Having said all that, to those of you complaining about the changes in Hearth & Home:

Nanny, nanny, boo-boo!!!

It's almost like Player reviews represent how the player feels about the current state of a game...
