Resin
So I have a beautiful house and am making good progress but I have run into a snag. Resin seems to be hard to come by now that I am not adventuring constantly in the Black Forest. I thought maybe there would be some non-resin torches later (maybe there are some beyond silver?) The standing torches in my house use resin. The hanging brazier is much better (uses coal) but my ceiling is too low really to use it all over the house.
I saw a gnarly video using wolves at a grey dwarf spawner but ick, just not my cup of tea. I suppose I could just take a few hours and stand there farming but that sounds so terribly boring. Do any of you have a better way to get resin? Honestly I am surprised we can't just extract it from wood....or trees.
Thanks ahead of time :)

It's very profitable. If AFK for a while and come back, it may not seem to be much in there. Is a greydwarf spawn farm not viable?
But the thing is that the resources starts to merge together after a while so the pieces you see can actually be x50 ones.

And this is how you do it.
Kill those that are there.
Put down a workbench fast and start building floorpanels into the spawner and around.
This will almost completly despawn the spawner.
When your done with the work needed put wolfs in there and have some in reserv in the area.
Also dig a trench around the area just deep enough so that no event or enemies near by can reach you.

^ This. I put wolves outside the walls of my compound, and every night I get a ton of resin! Sometimes a wolf pelt, though, too.

I had the same problem as OP before. When reaching the point that you need like 400 resin to fill all the scounces up it becomes a pain in the butt and resin starts to be gold.
Problem are now gone and i can even expand further without a problem.

Really need a way to produce resin once the base is very large and wood cutting needs don't add up to enough. Charcoal is producible from the smelting, why not have resin be a side product from a process at some crafting bench?
Charcoal is used to smelt, it is not smelted. It is made in a kiln, not a smelter, or you could get them from my favorite trophies, the Surtlings.
As for resin, you are asking to make the life making force of a tree that gets dried as something to make.
Go kill Greydwarves, you will need the eyes anyway.

A sap bucket that you could attach to trees would be nice...takes almost a full stack when I put 1 in every torch or sconce in the main base...needless to say the torches are not lit often.

This...and I have several large iron chests full of wood, plenty of eyes, etc. Once you have several bases, it gets to be pretty demanding if you have sconces around. Perhaps if they burned the resin slower? Something is needed here... You could perhaps consider the Valheim Plus mod; By default basically all of it's features are disabled so you can selectively enable them. One of my favorite ones to enable is in the 'FireSource' section.This...and I have several large iron chests full of wood, plenty of eyes, etc. Once you have several bases, it gets to be pretty demanding if you have sconces around. ; If set to true, torch-type fire sources will stay at max fuel level once filled. ; Applies to: wood torches, iron torches, green torches, sconces and brazier. torches = false
In short, when that specific setting is enabled, once you fill a given torch/sconce/light source to maximum fuel, it will stay full. It still costs the resin to craft, and the resin to top it off- but then it stops needing resin and you don't need to micromanage filling them. (And if you'd like to micro manage certain ones, stop filling at 1 less than maximum and it will still consume resin over time.)I particularly like that change since it means for large builds I can actually use torches and light it up without dedicating 95% of my playtime to farming for resin; And it still has what I consider to be a fair resin cost in setting it up to begin with.
Tbh, there's probably a standalone mod that does the same thing or very similar.

Spend a night chopping trees or mining in a black forest and killing the hundreds of grey dwarves that swarm you. Bonus points for doing it within range of one or more dwarf nests.
You'll be rolling in resin after one night, with a bunch of extra wood and stone besides.
Alternatively you could make one of them fancy auto wood/stone farmers using a dwarf nest, as that would be a passive way of getting resin too.

Oh I could I guess. But my house would lose the warm homey feel then. Besides I dunno if I want to light my house with fungus, I'm a viking warrioress not a druid. It's a good idea though :) Thanks

Make sure you are using the metal torches, they use resin much slower than the wood ones. The standing wood torch uses 1 resin every 2hr33min, while the standing iron torch and bronze sconce use 1 resin every 5hr33min. So getting rid of wooden torches makes your resin supply last way longer.

Small trees drop resin
Doing a run through Meadows and Forest should get you what you need
Wood torches burn fast
Sconces and iron torches burn slower
A stone hearth fire puts out a lot of light
Lots of drops put out light, yellow shrooms, fire hearts, and furling totems are my favs
Hang silver and bronze shields to reflect light
Have lots of windows or vents to let in light

I'm at a loss as to how anyone cannot have enough resin. I can't throw away enough of it. Just what i end up with whenever i go restock on wood for anything is more than i could ever use. Resin actually made me make a suggestion on the suggestions board for a menu that will let us toggle what items we auto pick up so my viking would stop picking the stuff up so i didn't spend so much time throwing it away lol.

True. I'm tired of throwing things away everytime i kill greylings because my inventory is full of stuff i didnt want to pick, like rocks and wood.
