I think I messed up...PLEASE HELP :(

Hey everyone. I've ran into a problem in my server. I was just about to start the boss fight for Moder. I already prepared a portal at my home base to connect one on top of the mountain. As soon as I found his spawn, I set the portal right next to it. After I got situated with my portal and a spawn point, a stone golem spawned, and I proceeded to attempt to fight him. This fight really sucked, as I was on the peak of a mountain, with no high ground to jump on top of him and use the pickaxe method. Long story short, he ended up destroying my whole hut, including my spawn point. On top of that, he pushed me off a cliff with one of his attacks, with the fall damage killing me. I respawned at the default spawn, ran to my portal, and sure enough the bugger destroyed my portal on top of the mountain, leaving me with no way to get back. I then used task manager to quick end Valheim, hoping to reload my game from an autosave. When I loaded back in, I was back in my base exactly where I left off, but my portal was connected to the mountain. It seems the whole world was from a past save, but my character was not. I put on my Fenris Armor and attempted to find my gravestone on the side of the mountain, and it was gone. It seems that the world is from an autosave, but on my map it still shows my death. I'm so confused. Any suggestions? Obviously I know it was a mistake to use task manager, but I'm just looking for tips on what to do next. I really don't want to have to make a whole new silver armor set, including the drake helmet which will take me hours to get. In total, this will add probably an extra 5 hours or something. Please help. :)

There are backups for worlds and characters. I've never had to use them, and I hear cloud saves make them more difficult to restore (ironic, right?).

Best thing if you're not sure about the thing you're about to do is to make your own backup ahead of time, again this is easier with local only saves.

Ahh. I see, I didn't know that they were separate saves, thank you for that. As for the dev commands, I think I'm okay grinding to get that gear again. Thank you for the recommendations though!

I found out by accident too but mine was fortunate instead of unfortunate. I was playing on a server and got killed in the mountains right as the world saved. When I logged back in I was at the trophy stones instead of at my set spawn point and I had all my iron gear and inventory and it was still equipped but I had a death skull on the mountain where I had died. When I got there I found a grave marker with my name on it and it contained a complete duplicate set off gear and all the inventory I had been carrying.

I believe that the tombstone is saved with the world, yeah.

Respawning at the starting location happened to me as well after I tried to reload old saves with the game's save manager (in the wrong way, certainly). When I returned to my base, I found that my bed was not destroyed. Only the connection to it had been severed.

Yeah, that is true. I've been thinking and really the only part that will be difficult to get again is the drake helmet, and that's not that bad. But yeah I'm just going to take a break and think about how I can do things better and differently next time.

If you aren't a purist you can use dev commands to spawn in all the things you need to rebuild your gear and save the grind time from what appears to be a glitch but is actually the way that the game is programmed. (Your character and the world map are separate saves.)

You can also put your portal inside the hole you dug when you were mining silver (or you can use your pick to dig a nearby hole). The golem can't hit you or the portal in there and it can't climb down into the pit unless you made a ramp instead of leaving steep sides.

You can't build a portal inside a frost cave unless you are using mods since the dungeons and caves are separate instances.

An unfortunate death, but you tried to exploit the save system with task manager.

Can't really blame the game an exploit didn't work.

Personally I would accept the challenge of getting all the gear I had back but your only other option from the sound of it is dev commands.

Your character is saved after death. Your world is not. I'd say game punished cheater.

Yeah, for sure I'm just going to accept the challenge. At least now I'll be much more aware of what could happen.

Your markers should be part of your character.

Oh okay, I see. Now that I've had time to think about it, I don't think it'll be too bad to get some more armor anyways. It'll just take time.

This really sucks too, as I was enjoying this game so much up until this point. I know I know, If I just "got good at the game" this wouldn't happen, but what should I do now?
