seasons would be good and add depth.

I agree with seasons. It adds an extra sense of progress too.

this could be a nice finishing touch either right as the game reaches 1.0 or a bit after as a free update. not something i'd expect to see soon. would be neat.

Earth has different biomes too. It doesn't seem to get in the way of it having seasons. A seasonal cycle would give structure to the passing of time and encourage long-range planning, especially if it affected the growth of crops and the availability of animals, and included seasonal changes in the wind patterns. You know, like reality....
