Not at all! There are reliable methods of dealing with them.

Block with sufficient HP and shield will stagger them and you can swat them with a club. Or with good timing before they sting. They have 10HP. Using cheap wooden arrows os also a way of killing them if you spot them in time.

They are perfect.
They are a pushover once you get the blackmetal shield (or whatever the end game shield was called, it's been a few months), but completely devastating if you encroach on their territory unprepared.

Trolls are no different the first time you venture from the Meadows into the Black Forest. Trolls can 1 shot you if you are not careful.
[Edit]: Nearly every zone has it's own "learning curve" / "increase in difficulty"...
Black Forest: Trolls / hoardes of tree mans
Swamp: Draugr archers and slime (poison damage will kill you)
Plains: Goblins (I forget their official in game names) and Deathsquitos
BONUS STAGE Ocean: Sea Serpent

They're glass cannons. I was taking them out with flint arrows before i got into the iron age.

Except troll armor works just fine in the plains or any other area or boss as long as you know what you are doing.

I use the Troll Armor set scouting the Plains and it is really not to hard to spot the skeeters.

A bow shot from afar drops them quickly.

I just take my time and try to stay aware of my surroundings.

Personally I find the skeeters only problematic when I am sailing along a coast in the fog and suddenly cross into a Plains zone and then am set upon by these insect kamikazes.

But even then if you can see them soon enough you can counter them.

Except troll armor works just fine in the plains or any other area or boss as long as you know what you are doing.

Not anymore lol , or you tank or you run/kite with low gear and shields nerf
Only sniping them may works but fulings will wreck you up now
