Is a mote still a good way to protect from raids?
It seems like creatures can climb better and noticed I needed to make the water to where they had to start swimming and not able to walk.
I guess you can make the motes wider or build up with stone also.
And workbenches you need to place them everywhere to avoid spawns?
If someone can give me a quick refresher before I start actually building a main base again that I want to avoid getting destroyed from raids.
Also just curious of all the youtube videos where people build stuff and they don't have any motes or protection really. I assume they just didn't kill any bosses or have cheat codes on or something? I plan on killing all the bosses and no cheat codes so want to make sure I am fully protected from the raids before I build a mega structure again.

Grab a hoe and raise a stone wall around your property for guaranteed security.
Then grab the pickaxe and dig some holes for traps.
I also learned that if you build a bridge in checkered diamond pattern using 1x1 panels: Enemies will not to cross it/may fall off trying.

Here's a rough draft, the 2nd layer is used as a catch in case you fall through:Grab a hoe and raise a stone wall around your property for guaranteed security.

As alternative you can make 2 Stair ramps (one in each direction) you can just run over to pass the trench

no need for walls just breed wolves .i have them wondering my grounds, ♥♥♥♥ gets tore up if it gets close even trolls: edit the only downside is you have alot of howling goin on lol
Not everyone is at that point, obviously.
Take me, for example: I went ~80 in-game days without a raid of any kind, then proceeded to kill the Elder and after hanging its trophy up (~2 to 3 days after killing it), got nailed with 3 raids within a couple in-game days.
Didn't really lose a lot.. I think a cooking rack from a Draugr Archer, and the front wall of a non-completed forward Swamp base thanks to Trolls.. but, afterwards, I raised an earth wall around said forward Swamp base.
Another Troll raid happened at my original base after raising a wall around it also. Trolls never moved upon spawning, until I shot at them.
Ultimately, the wall costs next to nothing (stones, oh no) to raise, and at the very least gives you time to kite stuff away from your base. I didn't mind those raids at all, though; I've since put all that Troll Leather to use and it's worked out really well for my Swamp stage.. since it takes 8 billion Iron to fully build and upgrade everything I want. (Iron Mace, Sledge, Armor, Workstations and related items) (Exaggeration on the amount of Iron needed, obviously.. but the amount to do all of that is massive.) (But still easier and far more rewarding than most Bronze stuff.)

My first non island base since a long time,
Should be raidsafe
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2625904515
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2625904531
Btw enough room for everything, only necessary outpost is a plains garden since this is meadows
And there is a mod that stops howling

A moat is still a good way to protect one's base from raids. Until drakes come along and simply fly over it.
When that happens some variant of M. Red's strategy will be needed. Fight and kite until the raid ends
I don't think a raid/event can occur while one is asleep in a bed. But one cannot sleep all the time.

as a simple solution - if a raid happends - go out and fight or kite until the raid ends
after tons of gameplay i only lost 2 fences and badly placed beehive during raids by simply going out - no matter how big or small i build
keep some space between the buildings and no enemy will stop to break your home
also dont block pathways just let em flow thru
more moats and walls mean enemys will tend to break those because it blocks their movement - ye more obstacles ye higher the risk of losing beloved builds
still if you want trenches and stuff i cant help

based on personal experience yes.
pnly time my homestead has taken damage to more than the outer walls has been from Drakes and Trolls throwing rocks. And once I added a 6 meter stone wall around the place and got past the Drake raids I pretty much ignore raids now unless I feel like bow sniping something.
A tip, put an air gap in any bridges or stairs across your trench to break the mobs pathing AI. I put a small wood beam on the inside edge of the moat and build out from it. Once the walkway is supported by the other side I destroy the beam so there is a small gap between the walkway and the inside. the PC steps over it easily but it is enough to keep the mobs from getting in if I forget to close the gate. The only thing this doesn't work on is blobs, they can jump over the gap, and trenches if they aren't wide enough.
The walk ways also make great choke points for mobs, open the door and they all come running up to the edge but can't get at you unless you step close enough.

Not at all good enough. A small particle of anything is not sufficient to stop a troll or anything else.
A moat, however, could work.

Once you start some stone walls you'll be alright.

In all my survival games I tend to keep to the water.
I found a nice peninsula that I made an island by digging a moat around it.
When a raid happens go out and fight, no fun in hiding in the base. I use an old copper I mined out as a kind of arena with a safe place of unreachable high ground in the middle.
I put sharp stakes in choke points, you can even line the whole moat with them so as mobs run through it they take damage and die.

trench or earth wall (raise grnd), easier to make a trench.
usually look for an area that has many steep cliffs and try to link them together and put a base on top, works well, virtually troll proof.
i use the spikes at the base of cliffs and another layer higher for the trolls.
