There is zero reason I can't build a sconce AT the forge, then place it where I want it.

Every single time I try to get into this game, I get hit with restrictive nonsense and end up hating it again. I'll be having a good time, no issues, then I try to do one simple thing, like put a sconce in a covered pass that leads into my main base. I already have to have work benches everywhere, which is an insane requirement, and very restrictive.

Now I'm finding out that just to place this sconce on this wall, I need to have a workbench practically at my feet, then I need to get all the extra materials, waste them building a forge, and THEN I can put up a sconce. Why? It makes no sense.

"But you can get materials back by removing it!" is what I've been told before when making complaints about workbench restrictions. THEN WHY IS IT REQUIRED IN THE FIRST PLACE? It's just extra steps if that's the case. It means to put up a single wall light, I have to build two crafting stations I already have. It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't balance anything out. That's now even remotely close to how it actually works in real life, and this game does all sorts of nonsense to mimic realism, like wood rotting in rain, so I don't want to hear "it's just a game" in regards to it not needing to be realistic.

I cannot fathom why you have to have crafting stations nearby to build. Especially not multiple stations for a single wall light. It's completely absurd.

yes, that is a neverending issue with forge/bench/black forge and stone cutter ... they are fine in a small home but need to keep moving them for bigger builds or hide them etc.
related but repairs are getting nutty too, visit 3 stations to fix every 30 min and the remote repair station is becoming a chore to set up.

Valneim plus mod lets you extend the workbench range.

This does nothing to solve problems. It should in fact show you how poor a game is if it needs mods in early access

Damn, gamers these days will just find anything to cry about instead of just playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Or not play it, your choice.

I find this to be one of the more annoying things in the game, too. I'm not sure if there is a mod or setting that can simply make the range of the work stations larger without ruining spawns, but it would be nice if a continuous base could utilize / detect a single workstation for building.

Currently, I use a mod that has work stations on wheels that helps in some situations. But what I would really love is a workbench backpack or something.

That or like other games.... pre-build furniture at the specific workstation if we can't transport metal through a portal (without mods). That would make a crafting area feel like even more of a crafting area.

the good news is, you can now. The new light you make at forge and place where you want it. Its also using no fuel. It can also be carried as an item to light your way.

This is my favoritest new piece... no more hokey glass walls and dragon tears or shroomlights.

@jonnin

This drives me nuts with the Lanterns and the Black Forge.

I am not burying a black forge every 50' where I want lanterns, so I constantly have to break it and build it, place the lanterns, and go put it back.

Asinine. Once you have unlocked everything by placing a specific crafting table, all said furniture objects should be linked to default workbench.
