Solo Play and Controller Support
Hey everyone
Couple of quick questions on Valheim.
Is this game playable solo? I mean, I know it WORKS, but is it realistically fun and entertaining to play alone? Does the world provide interesting events that don't have to be created by other players?
Also, store page says "Partial Controller Support". Can anyone who has tried controller describe what does and doesn't work currently?
Cheers

So do you htink it IS worth buying for a solo offline experience? I dont enjoy multiplayer games.
For what you mentioned, I'd lean toward no, but maybe check back in once the game is out of Early Access.

Is there any sort of story or endgame purpose to it in solo play, or is it more a case of the purpose being surviving alone?

To the OP...
I cant help with controller, I dont use that scheme.
Solo is fun ? It depends on if you are able to make your own goals rather than be told kill x boars for a bow, and y greylings for a shield etc etc.
Game is more like here the overall quest, kill the forsaken, you need to work out how to do this.
Game is linear in the way you take on the biomes... meadows - forest - swamp etc etc, but within that constraint its all up to you.
I play the game solo, and make my own goals for that session... today I am hunting for food, next I will mine some resources, I want to add to my home, I am ready to kill a boss... that sort of thing.
If you are fine making your own 'quests' then solo play will be fine for you, otherwise it will seem pointless and a chore.
There is no real time limit, you progress as you want, the raids get tougher the more bosses you kill but other than that you go as you want, this may or may be to your liking and this is the part that decides the fun part.
Hope that helps

Wow thank you! I have been trying to figure out forever how to drop items in the world with a controller!

I concur...Xbox controller support is good; I use inexpensive clones. Avatar animations and movement seem to lend themselves to controller support. Some controls that aren't apparent at first are:
Zoom FPS camera= LT+DPad UP and DOWN
Split Stack=LT+(A)
Move entire Stack=RT+(A) while container is open
Drop entire Stack=RT+(A) with no container open/out in the world
Overview Map Icon visibility as you highlight an icon in the menu= Dpad >>
Overview Map Icon remove= (B)...I think, I remove markers all the time thinking (B) is the Back button as in other menus, it's not--careful
Overview Map Icon place= (A)...I think, I usually place with a Mouse with Dclick as I can then enter Text
Rename a tamed animal= LB+(A)
Ride Lox w/Saddle= (A)
Remove Saddle= LB+(A)
NB:You cannot enter Text with a controller to name Map icons or Furniture Sign, definitely need a KB to achieve this.
I also feel there should be a pinned Topic on all found/discovered controller inputs?? Perhaps on the 'official' wiki site. Hadn't played in a while and I forgot how to zoom the camera in/out....lol.
Thank you for this. I didn't know how to drop with the controller and would tend to wait until I was in a safe spot and gradually use the touchpad to do that action.

game plays great as a solo player (doing that myself while i'm learning how to play the game). For the Controller i use the 8BitPro SN30 Pro (it's basically a Playstation controller that looks like a Super Nintendo controller) and it works great and i like it better then Keyboard and Mouse. The SN30 Pro for some reason on Steam reads as an Xbox 360 controller and i have no idea why.

I'd the same question as you re solo play before I took the plunge.
So I'm now playing solo and really enjoying it so far simply because I like exploring and building in a fairly open environment.
I've also no interest in playing multiplayer as I want my world to be my world.
I think enjoyment from playing this solo will depend on the type of player and what they need from a game to make it fun for them.
I can however see how Valheim will play quite differently as a multiplayer experience (in terms of resource collection, combat, boss battles, etc) versus solo.
Finally, I bought it on sale a few weeks ago at around £12 so hard to go wrong at that price point - knowing I was only interested in the solo experience I held off buying it at full price.

I enjoy playing solo. Controller works for everything except renaming icons on the map (xbox360 controller).
