Did the fog mechanic change in recent patches? I don't remember it being super thick.

Fog can be super thick. I couldn't see the hands before my eyes. I just take it as it comes. *shrug* It's part of the game.

If you do what @captainamaziiing is doing ALL the time (using devcommands that is), IMHO you're robbing yourself a lot of the experience and atmosphere the game has to offer.

But to each their own.

It's not so much hitting land, it's scanning it for POI. Fog hits, and now I have to stop, since I can no longer pinpoint a crypt or something else I'm looking for (who am I kidding, it's just crypts). I don't mind too much, but man it occurs far too frequently for my liking.

Fog, one of the few thing I really hate in this game also.
Happens more often at sea and in the Plains it feels like anyway.
When going for a long sail exploration it is one of those things I rather turn the boat around and sail back, if the fog come as soon as I reach the Ocean.

Remember also the time I was stuck on a rock in the plains for 40 min because I could not see a ♥♥♥♥ and was right next to a a big Fuling village that I was about to attack.

Really annoying listen to those Fuling laugh for 40 min and realise they all sound the same, the bigger ones just has a lower pitch

Other than that I can stand the fog.

I love dense fog it creates cozy atmosphere

Just a thought... when sailing in fog learn to sail using your minimap for navigation. Lets you keep away from the coastlines where you find most sandbars and islands.

Not 100% protection guaranteed... but rare enough that you don't die... Leviathans are the only real risk as they don't show on a map :)

You can even make the map zoom out and use it for long full speed journies in days of blind fog. :)

Pretty sure the other guy is right. Even in thick fog you can still avoid smashing into land pretty handily.

I encountered a couple of days ago 3 layered elevations of fog. Personally that seemed a bit overkill.

Fog does seem to be unusually common. Honestly 9/10 when I'm sailing its fog.

Just look at the waters of the Norse and you will understand why there is so much fog, it's part of life.
