Mods vs Updates - why not both?

I think game is a good base for a game - but missing a lot of things. And to be honest development speed is pretty underwhelming BUT

why not use the community and improve the game and try to implement modding in a way that wont break on every update?

For example there are tons of mods that add stuff like magic loot, new items, new enemies etc. - the problem seems to be that every of those mods seems to have to add those things in some weird way which leads to mods breaking each other or breaking whenever there is a new update.

Suggestion:
- give modders an easy standardized way to simply add items to the game
- since all of the "dungeons" are just portals anyways - why not add an easy way for modders to add new dungeons to a random pool that will connect to the instances in the world?
- give modders an easy standardized way to add new enemies to specific areas etc

And since many of the updates are pretty small - it would be really nice to have beta versions in steam to be able to play older versions until mods have been updated.

I fully agree with you. Devs would be well advised to leave room for future modding by the community, by not only avoiding to lock knwon "entry points" to the Unity 3D engine, but also by foreseeing imaginative ways to mod their game around the engine... in the future.

For you may have missed one little point (or it's not so clear in OP): at the moment, there is no game, there are no updates, and there are no mods, at least not in the sense you seem to have in mind.

There is a early access game, more like an open beta/gamma test if you want.

There is a lot of work in progress, advancement is relatively slow, and saved games and mods are bound to be broken one day or another, several times before release.

There are mods at this stage only thanks to the game using the well known Unity 3D engine. Would the game use its own WIP engine, there would certainly be less mods around (only modders that can decompile the game or hack libraries, essentially).

So, I'd kindly say: post again 6 months before announced game's release.
