Ouch wolves have been buffed since last time I played.

I used to be able to parry and riposte to kill a 3 pack of wolves with iron mace and buckler plus armor. Now they attack fast enough to stagger lock me. It also looks like they can stand closer together or pass through each other now, cause I can't trap one behind the other long enough to kill the first. Gonna have to work up some new tactics for melee'ing them, or just suffer through it till I get my silver gear done.

I've got swamp foods, but I prefer 2 stam 1 health, especially in mountains where you have to burn all your stamina climbing straight up a slope. It's really annoying that they tied blocking to max health.
On a side note, ice caves are way too easy. I saw a post of someone complaining about them and I don't know why. I went and cleared one with an abyss dagger and iron gear. The bat's are only slightly annoying b/c you have to wait for em to get close, and the wolven are laughably easy.

They are RNG and you have probably not been in one very deep and got swarmed.

And yeah that post was probably from me. I wasn't complaining about the difficulty as much as I was wondering how the game mechanics were set up to deal with the threats presented. I have no issues with risk vs reward being rewarding.

Ahh, The most I ever saw at one time was 2 wolven and a host of bats. Only been in one cave so far. It does look like you will have to go in a bunch to get enough mats for the fenris set.

Wait till you encounter a cultist.

One tip: Step aside.

Sounds like you didnt encounter the cultists who use fire balls and flame jets on you or the occassional golem in the large lower cavern cave iterations.

However, there are some ways to handle those too obviously hehe.

As for "climbing straight up". You could also take the time to make trails that zig zag up steep inclines too so that while it takes one a few seconds longer to get up a mountain, one's stamina/progress is not as much of an issue.

Since H&H blocking was changed to include your max health. You should be fine in iron gear and banded shield if you eat the best swamp food.

I tend to dig pits to trap em. If you make a grid of 6 with thin walls between them in the snow biome(or just a couple) it becomes easier to filter out the pack and kill off the ones you dont want.

Just run around/in out the pits.

Wolves can be largely avoided by travelling during the day and keeping the golems around. Once a silver vein is spotted dig DEEP so that enemies can't chase you. Deep spots are pretty safe so they're great places to set up portals for easy recovery. It's also more fun to pop a silver vein by digging under and collapsing it.

Wolf combat is fairly tricky. They have some of the fastest attacks so blocking is tricky. Their short hitboxes combo with mountain steepness to make them the most difficult targets to hit. Bonemass is effective for powering through, but wolves are fairly fragile and can be sniped with decent bow skills.
